Yankees Top Prospect Is Suddenly Forcing A Bigger Infield Conversation

Dax Kilby's refined swing is already making an impact as the Yankees' top prospect shines in the Arizona Fall League, hinting at a promising future for the young shortstop.

Dax Kilby’s fall assignment in Arizona is doing exactly what the Yankees hoped it would do: give their top prospect real game reps while he works through a major swing overhaul.

The 19-year-old shortstop popped his first home run in the Arizona Fall League on Thursday, a solo drive to right field. Through four games, the left-handed hitter is 5-for-16, and the early line is encouraging enough on its own. But the bigger story is what Kilby is trying to change at the plate right now.

"We're actually going through a pretty big swing change," Kilby told MLB Pipeline's Jim Callis. "I'm starting narrow and open, whereas I was pretty wide and closed.

It's pretty much a complete change in my swing, but I'm super excited to use it. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and it's felt amazing, so I'm excited to see how it plays in games."

That kind of adjustment matters even more when you zoom out and look at how little pro baseball Kilby has actually played. New York took him with the 39th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft out of high school, and he got into just 19 Single-A games last year. He hit .353 in that brief sample and stole 16 bases.

This season was supposed to be his first full run through the minors, but a hamstring injury slowed everything down. Kilby ended up appearing in 36 games, including 32 at Single-A, where he hit .261 with four homers, 26 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.

That’s why the Arizona Fall League makes sense here. Kilby has only 55 minor league games behind him since being drafted, so every inning and every at-bat carries extra value. He gets a chance to face other notable prospects, test the new swing in real competition, and keep building the kind of experience he still needs.

There’s also the position question hanging in the background. Kilby has played shortstop exclusively so far in his pro career, but that could change if he starts seeing time elsewhere this fall or next year. With George Lombard Jr. looking like New York’s shortstop going forward, another position could be the quickest route for Kilby to move up the ladder.

For now, though, the focus is on the bat and the work he’s putting in this fall. Yankees fans have a reason to keep watching Kilby closely in Arizona and beyond.

A-Rod Just Put The Yankees Biggest Roster Problem On Blast

The Yankees season ended with a sweep at the hands of the Rays in the American League Division Series, and with it came another winter full of uncomfortable questions about how this roster is built. The loss not only pushed the championship drought further along, it also reopened the familiar debate around Brian Cashmans approach to roster construction, especially after a year in which the teams defensive shortcomings again became part of the story.

Alex Rodriguez leaned into that conversation, arguing that the organization needs a broader change in philosophy and a sharper balance between offense and defense. He put the roster issue front and center by pointing to a handful of spots that still feel unsettled, underscoring how much work the Yankees may have ahead if they want the next version of this team to look more complete. Yankees Ugly Playoff Loss Took A Wild Turn Fans Couldnt Ignore

A Yankees playoff night that already had enough drama on the field picked up a strange little subplot in the stands on Oct. 7, 2026, when Marlins Man, Laurence Leavy, was spotted at the game against the Rays chatting with pop star Dua Lipa. The exchange was caught on broadcast cameras and quickly became one of the more memorable off-field moments from a loss that otherwise belonged to Tampa Bay.

Leavy later took to social media to rave about the encounter, adding another layer to the scene for fans who noticed it unfold in real time. It was the kind of only-in-baseball detour that briefly pulled attention away from the scoreboard and onto a celebrity sighting that gave Yankee Stadium an unexpected pop-culture buzz. [Read more 🡒]

Roger Clemens Just Reignited A Debate Yankees Fans Know Too Well

Roger Clemens is back in the spotlight, and this time it has nothing to do with his fastball or his Hall of Fame case. President Donald Trump announced at a rally that he intends to award the former Yankees ace the Presidential Medal of Freedom, setting off a fresh round of debate about how Clemens should be remembered and what kind of honor fits a pitcher whose legacy has long divided baseball fans.

Clemens responded by saying the recognition would supersede what he accomplished during his playing career, a striking turn for a player whose place in the sport has remained contested for years. For Yankees fans, it is another reminder that Clemens has never been just a baseball story, and that any discussion about his legacy tends to reopen the same arguments all over again. [Read more 🡒]
