Jazz Chisholm Jr. has etched his name in New York Yankees lore with an impressive 31-homer, 31-steal season, becoming just the third Yankee to join the exclusive 30-30 club. But Chisholm isn’t stopping there. He’s got his eyes on an even loftier goal: a 50-50 season, a feat only achieved by Shohei Ohtani.
In a conversation with The Athletic's Chris Kirschner, Chisholm confidently declared, "You’re looking at the second one," when reminded of the rarity of a 50-50 season. It's a bold ambition, but if anyone can do it, Chisholm's combination of power and speed makes him a prime candidate.
Reaching 50 homers is no small feat, especially considering the record for a second baseman is 45, set by Marcus Semien in 2021. Chisholm hitting 50 would be historic, but pairing it with 50 steals would elevate him to legendary status.
As he enters his final season before free agency, Chisholm's performance could not only redefine his career but also set him up for a significant contract extension. He’s made it clear he wants to remain a Yankee, and a season for the ages would certainly make that a priority for the franchise.
