Yankees Prospect Stuns Fans With Impressive Spring Training Performance

Emerging from spring training with impressive velocity and command, Yankees prospect Ben Hess teases a promising future on the mound.

The Yankees' spring training has kicked off with a bang, and while Elmer Rodriguez and Carlos Lagrange are grabbing the headlines, there’s another name fans should be buzzing about: Ben Hess. Despite flying under the radar, Hess is proving to be a key asset in the Yankees' pitching arsenal.

Hess, who wrapped up the 2025 season with impressive stats at Double-A Somerset-boasting a 2.70 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 45 strikeouts over 36 2/3 innings-has shown he’s ready to make waves. The Yankees snagged him in the first round of the 2024 draft, recognizing potential despite a challenging final season at the University of Alabama. His college stats might have been rocky, but with 106 strikeouts in just over 68 innings, the talent was undeniable.

Fast forward to 2026, and Hess is off to a strong start in spring training. Facing the Pittsburgh Pirates, he pitched three innings, allowing just one run on two hits with two walks, and impressively struck out five. It was a solid outing, especially in those first two innings before fatigue set in.

Hess showcased a fastball sitting at 93-94 MPH and unveiled a sweeping slider and a sharp two-plane curveball. His performance on the mound caught the eye of many, highlighting his potential as a top-tier prospect.

Adding to his growing reputation, Hess recently faced off against Yankees superstar Aaron Judge in a live batting practice session. While Judge, along with Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger, eventually got the better of him, Hess’s ability to hit 95 MPH and show serious pitch movement left a lasting impression.

As the season progresses, expect to see more of Hess before he likely heads back to Somerset to start the 2026 campaign. If he continues to build on his recent performances, a promotion to Triple-A could be on the horizon, bringing him one step closer to the majors.

Given the Yankees' depth in pitching prospects, Hess could also become a valuable trade asset as the team looks to bolster its roster for a potential World Series run. With Rodriguez and Lagrange seemingly untouchable, Hess, along with Bryce Cunningham and Chase Hampton, might be considered for trade discussions.

No matter how things unfold, the Yankees' farm system is showing promising signs, and Ben Hess is a name fans should keep on their radar. His development could be a game-changer for the organization moving forward.
