The Yankees may be living under their usual championship-or-bust spotlight, but the latest read on Aaron Boone’s future points in one direction: he’s staying put.
FanSided’s Robert Murray said he expects New York to keep Boone through 2027, regardless of how this season ends. Boone is in his ninth year as Yankees manager, and his contract runs through the 2027 season, while the front office also appears to be standing firmly behind him.
“But both [Brian] Cashman and Boone have done a very good job in New York. Cashman is a surefire Hall of Fame executive,” Murray wrote.
“Boone is very good at his job and like I mentioned with [Torey] Lovullo, would be hired in a second if he was ever let go,” Murray added. “I firmly expect both to remain with the Yankees beyond the 2026 season. They do not feel like they are in any danger of being let go.”
Boone has guided the Yankees to the postseason in every season except 2023, but that level of consistency still hasn’t satisfied a fan base that expects a title. New York’s only trip to the World Series under Boone ended with the club being dominated by a much better Los Angeles Dodgers team in five games in 2024.
The pressure that comes with the job hasn’t changed, and neither has the standard. The Yankees haven’t won a championship since 2009, and Boone’s public standing could look very different if this group finally gets over the top.
Still, based on the reporting here, a change in the dugout would be a surprise even if the Yankees don’t make a deep postseason run.
