As the 2026 season heads toward its finish, front offices around baseball are getting ready to shift. Manager openings and executive vacancies are coming, and some clubs are already looking for the next hire.
The Yankees, though, don’t appear headed for a shakeup. MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided.com says New York is expected to keep Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone in place, with both jobs viewed as very safe no matter how the season ends.
“But both Cashman and Boone have done a very good job in New York. Cashman is a surefire Hall of Fame executive,” Murray writes.
"... I firmly expect both to remain with the Yankees beyond the 2026 season.
They do not feel like they are in any danger of being let go."
That outlook comes even with the Yankees still fighting for the AL East title. Tampa Bay has built a solid lead, and unless Aaron Judge returns from injury, catching the Rays may be a tough ask.
Cashman has taken heat for plenty of his recent decisions. Bringing back a lot of the roster this offseason drew criticism, and the Trent Grisham qualifying offer call did not go over well either. The trade deadline brought more questions, with Cashman drawing little praise for adding Heliot Ramos and not finding extra bullpen help or a new catcher.
Still, there were also moves that helped shape the Yankees’ season in a positive way. The re-signing of Cody Bellinger, the trade for Ryan Weathers, and the deal for Luis Garcia Jr. were all viewed as strong additions.
So while some fans may be frustrated with how the roster has been built, Murray’s stance is clear: Cashman is not going anywhere. He believes the same is true for Boone.
Cashman may have missed on some moves this past offseason, but that comes with the territory for every executive. Over the course of his Yankees run, he has made more than enough high-end decisions to keep his standing secure.
For now, and likely beyond this season, Cashman remains exactly where he’s been for years: at the center of the Yankees’ baseball operation.
