The New York Giants have already been forced into quarterback desperation mode after Jaxson Dart’s season-ending knee injury, and that has opened the door to every imaginable name getting tossed into the conversation. Colin Kaepernick.

Now Aaron Rodgers has entered the mix too, and that idea should die quickly.
Ryan Pawloski of Still Curtain, FanSided’s Steelers site, floated the possibility of Pittsburgh sending Rodgers to East Rutherford if the Steelers’ season goes off the rails. In his scenario, Rodgers would give the Giants a veteran bridge for John Harbaugh’s first season in charge while Pittsburgh would move on and let the 42-year-old finish out what he has said is his final season somewhere with meaning.
That sounds neat in theory. In practice, it makes no sense for Joe Schoen and the Giants.
Rodgers is not playing like a quarterback who can rescue anything. He is tied to an offense that has struggled to function, and the numbers are brutal: among 29 quarterbacks with at least 50 dropbacks this season, he ranks last in EPA per play, last in success rate, and 28th in yards per attempt. By every meaningful measure in the source, he has been the worst starting quarterback in the NFL.
The style has been part of the problem, too. Rodgers has leaned on static, easy-to-read formations and a quick release, and that approach has not helped the Steelers move the ball with any consistency.
Pawloski’s suggestion also depends on Pittsburgh being willing to bail out on a season that goes south. Even that is no sure thing, since the organization has been too stubborn to admit defeat over the last decade. And if Rodgers is truly available, the price would likely be modest - maybe a seventh-round pick, or even a late-round pick swap.
But cheap does not mean smart. If the Steelers are sliding, that only reinforces the bigger issue: Rodgers has not bounced back. There is no reason for the Giants to trade for a 42-year-old quarterback who has been one of the worst in the league, especially not when the goal would have to be finding a player who can actually lift them.
