The Yankees may have more than one major awards storyline brewing, and the clearest one outside the Cam Schlittler Cy Young buzz belongs to Cody Bellinger.
While Schlittler is being talked about as the favorite for the AL Cy Young Award and could finish the job unless he hits a late-season collapse, Bellinger is drawing a different kind of recognition. MLB.com’s Jason Foster, Jared Greenspan, and Brian Murphy have him pegged to win the AL Gold Glove in left field, and that forecast looks pretty hard to argue with.
Bellinger already has one Gold Glove on his résumé, which came in 2019, but the case for another one is strong. The MLB.com trio wrote, “Bellinger won his lone Gold Glove back in 2019, but he has been arguably the best AL left fielder since the start of 2025,”
The numbers back that up. Bellinger owns a plus-10 Fielding Run Value from Baseball Savant this season, tied for 20th in MLB overall and tied for fifth among all outfielders. More importantly for this award race, he sits well ahead of the other American League left fielders.
The nearest challenger is Cleveland’s Steven Kwan, who has split time between center and left field and is at plus-seven FRV. After that, Tampa Bay’s Chandler Simpson and Boston’s Jarren Duran are next among AL left fielders, both sitting at plus-three.
That gap gives Bellinger a real edge, and by the look of it, a Gold Glove in left field should be his to lose.
