Carlos Rodon Teases Return as Yankees Face Early Season Challenge

Carlos Rodon provides an update on his recovery progress, keeping Yankees fans eagerly anticipating his return as the team navigates early season challenges.

The New York Yankees are navigating a challenging start to the 2026 season with their starting rotation under significant strain. Both Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon, key figures in their pitching lineup, are on the IL as Opening Day approaches. Rodon, recovering from offseason elbow surgery, joins Cole in potentially missing the first couple of months.

In a promising development, Rodon faced live batters at the Yankees' spring training camp, marking his first live BP session since the surgery. Speaking to YES Network at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida, the 33-year-old pitcher shared that while he's eager to return, the timing rests with the Yankees’ medical team. "Whatever day they said," Rodon commented, emphasizing his trust in their judgment.

Last season, Rodon delivered his best performance since signing a six-year, $162 million deal with the Yankees. He notched an 18-9 record with a 3.09 ERA over a career-high 195.1 innings. However, postseason struggles followed as he pitched through significant elbow pain, leading to his surgery in October.

Despite the progress in his rehab, Rodon remains focused on the present. "I just target waking up the next day; I don’t sleep thinking about when I’ll be back," the three-time All-Star stated, highlighting his day-to-day approach as he edges closer to full health.

In his recent session, Rodon threw 20 pitches and is expected to undergo another session this week. The Yankees will be closely monitoring his progress, as his return could be pivotal for the rotation's stability in the coming months.
