As the 2026 season looms, the New York Yankees are focused on getting their roster back to full strength. A key piece of that puzzle is starting pitcher Carlos Rodon, who is on the mend from elbow surgery. Rodon, optimistic about his recovery, is eyeing an April return.
The Yankees' skipper, Aaron Boone, noted that Rodon might not see action in a spring training game due to scheduling, but the signs are promising. Rodon has been throwing to live hitters, and his recent sessions have left him feeling encouraged. “I felt like I could have done more, but obviously can’t push it yet,” he shared, reflecting a positive outlook on his physical condition.
In 2025, Rodon was a standout performer with a 3.09 ERA and 18 wins across 33 starts, helping the Yankees reach the postseason before falling to the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS. Boone is pleased with Rodon’s progress, remarking, “He’s trending in a good way. We haven’t rushed anything, and he’s responded well.”
Rodon isn’t the only pitcher the Yankees are watching closely. Gerrit Cole is also on the comeback trail, set to make his spring debut after missing all of 2025 due to Tommy John surgery. Boone is optimistic about the depth of his pitching staff, stating, “With Carlos and Gerrit back, we have 10-12 guys I’d trust to start a Major League game and give us a chance to win.”
As spring training continues, the Yankees are gearing up for a matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays, with eyes on a healthy and competitive start to the season.
