Hartford Wolf Pack Sign Defenseman Owen Gallatin to PTO
The Hartford Wolf Pack are adding some blue line depth, signing defenseman Owen Gallatin to a professional tryout agreement (PTO), the team announced Thursday.
Gallatin, 23, has spent this season in the ECHL, splitting time between the Fort Wayne Komets and the Maine Mariners. After appearing in just one game for Fort Wayne, he was dealt to Maine on November 3. Since joining the Mariners, Gallatin has suited up for 22 games, tallying five points on one goal and four assists.
While those numbers don’t jump off the page, Gallatin brings a solid foundation of experience and consistency. Before turning pro, he put in four full seasons with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, a program known for producing reliable, two-way defensemen. Over 152 NCAA games, Gallatin racked up 79 points (19 goals, 60 assists), showing he can contribute offensively while logging heavy minutes.
For the Wolf Pack, this move offers a low-risk look at a young defenseman who’s been grinding through the ECHL ranks and has a proven college pedigree. With injuries, call-ups, and the grind of a long AHL season, adding a player like Gallatin gives Hartford another option to plug into the lineup when needed.
It’s also worth noting that Hartford has been a key development stop for Rangers prospects over the years. If Gallatin can make the most of this opportunity, he could position himself for a longer stay - and perhaps even a more permanent role within the organization.
For now, he’ll get a shot to prove himself in Hartford. And sometimes, that’s all a player needs.
