The Hartford Wolf Pack moved quickly to patch a goaltending hole, bringing in James Reimer on a professional tryout as the Rangers’ AHL affiliate looks for some stability in net.
The club announced the move on October 15, 2026, along with a loan of defenseman Anthony Kehrer to the Worcester Railers of the ECHL. Reimer gives Hartford exactly what it was after: a veteran with a long NHL track record and plenty of mileage.
Selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs with the 99th pick in the fourth round of the 2006 draft, Reimer has carved out a 16-year career that’s taken him through eight NHL teams. Now 38, he has appeared in 539 NHL games and has a 232-191-67 record.
His most recent stop came with the Ottawa Senators, where he played 14 games last season and finished 7-4-2 with an .886 save percentage and a 2.42 GAA. Over his full career, Reimer has posted a .909 save percentage and a 2.87 GAA.
Along the way, he’s logged time in Anaheim, Buffalo, Detroit, San Jose, Carolina, Florida and Toronto, adding to the reputation of a true journeyman goalie. Even with that resume, a more permanent deal and any chance of earning a look with the Rangers still seem like a long shot. For now, the assignment appears straightforward: give young Callum Tung a seasoned backup in Hartford.
The Wolf Pack are back on the ice Friday night, when they visit the Charlotte Checkers, the Florida Panthers’ AHL affiliate.

Rangers Add Veteran Goalie Depth As Bigger Questions Still Linger
The Rangers quietly added some veteran insurance to their goaltending pipeline, bringing James Reimer aboard on a professional tryout agreement with AHL affiliate Hartford. It is the kind of depth move that does not change the big picture in New York right away, but it does give the Wolf Pack a more stable presence in net while the organization keeps sorting through its larger goalie picture.
The timing is notable because the Rangers still do not have complete clarity at the NHL level, and the front office may not be done searching for help. For now, this is about making sure Hartford is covered and giving the organization another experienced option to evaluate, with more goalie decisions potentially still ahead. [Read more 🡒]
Rangers-Affiliated Wolf Pack Suddenly Have A Skid Fans Can't Ignore
The Hartford Wolf Packs rough patch deepened with a 2-1 loss to the Charlotte Checkers at Bojangles Coliseum, their fourth straight defeat and a reminder that even a solid start can quickly get shaky in the AHL. Donovan Sebrango opened the scoring for Charlotte, and Bryce McConnell-Barker answered for Hartford, but the Rangers affiliate could not find enough to steady itself after a game that stayed tight for most of the night.
Hunter St. Martin broke the tie late in the third period to send the Checkers home with the win, adding another frustrating finish to a stretch the Wolf Pack would rather forget. For a team that had been undefeated away from home until now, the setback also marked its first road loss of the season, a jolt that makes the skid feel even more noticeable. [Read more 🡒]
Rangers Took One Bad Loss And The Overreaction Was Immediate
A lopsided night in New Jersey was enough to send the early-season conversation around the Rangers into a familiar place: a little too much sky-is-falling energy for a team that had otherwise started well. At 6-3-0, New York has already banked enough good work to make one bad outing feel more like a stumble than a verdict, even if the 7-1 loss to the Devils was hard to ignore.
Still, the reaction around the league moved fast, and it showed how thin the margin can be in October and November when power rankings are chasing form more than results. The Rangers have already beaten teams they needed to measure themselves against, which is why the sudden slide in perception feels more severe than the standing alone would suggest. [Read more 🡒]
