Rangers Fans Have A Good Early Reason To Watch Hartford

The Hartford Wolf Pack demonstrate resilience and skill in their second victory of the season, setting an impressive early pace with their win against the Penguins.

The Hartford Wolf Pack are off to a clean start, and Sunday night in Pennsylvania gave them a second straight win to back it up. After opening the 2026-27 season with a third-period push, Hartford went back to work against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and again had to come from behind before pulling out a 3-2 victory.

The Wolf Pack gave up the first goal, but they kept building until the game tilted their way. By the end, Hartford had scored three times, survived a late push, and walked out at 2-0-0-0.

The Penguins got the first strike early when Jake Livanavage floated a shot that slipped over Callum Tung’s blocker for the game’s opening goal. Tung recovered nicely after that, stopping 12 of the 13 shots he saw in the first period. At the other end, Taylor Gauthier handled all six Hartford shots in the frame, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton carried a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Hartford’s answer came quickly in the second. Just 21 seconds into the period, an Owen Pickering holding penalty sent the Wolf Pack to the power play, and Marc Del Gaizo made it count. His shot from the top of the zone threaded through traffic and into the net to even things at 1-1.

Cole Beaudoin and Liam Greentree assisted on the goal, and both players picked up points in their first two professional games. The Penguins challenged for offsides, but the goal stood.

Later in the period, Hartford grabbed its first lead of the night. Beaudoin forced a turnover low in the offensive zone and slipped a backhanded pass out front, where Taylor Raddysh was cutting hard to the net.

Raddysh finished the play to make it 2-1. It was his second goal in as many games, while Beaudoin added another assist to go with his second straight multi-point outing.

He has now posted at least two points in each of his first two professional games.

Hartford took that one-goal edge into the third, and when the opportunity came for insurance, the Wolf Pack cashed in again. A slashing call on Oliver Okuliar created the team’s fifth power play of the night, and in the final seconds of that advantage Glenn Gawdin fired from the left wall. Gauthier turned it aside, but Nathan Aspinall was right there for the rebound and buried it to extend the lead to 3-1.

That goal was Aspinall’s first as a professional, making him the second Wolf Pack player this season to record his first pro goal.

The Penguins made things uncomfortable late. Drew Fortescue’s tripping penalty opened the door for a power play, and Avery Hayes knocked in a goal to trim the margin to one. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton got another chance when Anton Blidh was whistled for tripping with 39 seconds left, but Hartford killed it off to finish the job.

The win puts the Wolf Pack at 2-0-0-0, their first 2-0 start since the 2023-24 season.

Hartford is back on the road Friday against the Providence Bruins, with puck drop set for 7:05 pm. The home opener follows on Saturday, October 10, when the Penguins come to town for a 6 pm start.

Alexis Lafrenire Just Became The Face Of This Rangers Surge

The Rangers latest surge kept rolling at home with a 5-2 win over the Islanders, their fourth straight victory, and it came with a little bit of everything the building could have asked for. Cole Beaudoin made his NHL debut after being recalled because Joe Veleno was sidelined by injury, while Semyon Varlamov got his first regular-season start in 676 days after going through knee surgeries. It was the kind of night that felt like another small marker for a team trying to stack wins and settle into something sturdier.

Alexis Lafrenire was at the center of it again, driving the offense in a game where the Rangers looked increasingly comfortable pressing the pace and closing it out. His latest performance only added to the sense that New York has found a reliable front-facing spark during this run, especially with the way the wins are starting to come in different forms. The bigger question now is whether this stretch is the start of something more lasting, with Lafrenire right in the middle of it. [Read more 🡒]

Rangers Face A Different Capitals Threat In Ovechkins Final Run

The Rangers have responded to an opening-night shutout loss by rattling off four straight wins, but the next stretch of the schedule brings a different kind of attention to the Metropolitan Division. Washington is still built around Alex Ovechkins presence, and the Capitals remain one of the leagues more familiar rivals for New York as this young season starts to settle in.

Ovechkins final NHL run gives every meeting with Washington a little extra weight, even as the Capitals have quietly adjusted their look up front. With new faces around the roster and a franchise icon in his last lap, the matchup carries both the usual division stakes and a hint of transition, making the Rangers next check-in with the Caps feel like more than just another early-season game. Mike Sullivan Is Already Changing The Feel Around These Rangers

The early tone around the Rangers has shifted quickly this season, and Mike Sullivan deserves a big share of the credit for it. New York has looked sharper and more connected in the opening stretch, with better chemistry and a more competitive edge showing up in the way the team is playing. Sullivan has already left his mark not just on the bench, but in the way the roster is being handled and in the steadier performances coming from the lineup.

For a team that spent so much time searching for the right mix, that matters. The change in feel is obvious enough that Sullivan is already drawing attention beyond the day-to-day results, with some of the early-season buzz centering on what his impact could mean over a full year. The Rangers are moving in the right direction, and the next question is how long this momentum can last once the league starts testing them more seriously. [Read more 🡒]
