Rangers Bottom Six Decision Just Sent A Tough Message

The Rangers adjust their lineup, swapping promising young talent Cole Beaudoin for veteran experience with the recall of Justin Dowling.

The Rangers made a roster move Tuesday, sending forward Cole Beaudoin to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack and bringing forward Justin Dowling back up from Hartford.

Beaudoin, 20, has wasted little time making noise in the minors. In two games with the Wolf Pack this season, he has five points - one goal and four assists.

His pro debut came on Oct. 3 against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, when he put up a three-point night with one goal and two assists. He followed that on Oct. 4 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins with two more assists.

Before that, Beaudoin had already seen action with New York, skating in four games for the Rangers and making his NHL debut on Oct. 6 at Madison Square Garden against the New York Islanders.

The Ottawa, ON native spent the previous four seasons in the OHL with the Barrie Colts, where he piled up 221 points - 91 goals and 130 assists - in 236 games.

Dowling, 36, goes the other direction after posting two points, one goal and one assist, in four games with the Wolf Pack this season. In the 2025-26 campaign, he had 29 points - nine goals and 20 assists - in 46 games with Hartford and also appeared in two games for the Rangers.

The Calgary, AB native has played 154 career NHL games with the Rangers, New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks and Dallas Stars, totaling 26 points with nine goals and 17 assists.

Rangers Are Backing Up Contender Talk With A Start Fans Will Love

The early return on the Rangers opening month has been hard to ignore, especially at Madison Square Garden, where theyve won their first five home games and suddenly look every bit like a team backing up the preseason contender chatter. New York has jumped to the top of the league in wins, and the broader profile is just as encouraging, with the Rangers showing up near the top in goals against, goals scored and penalty kill percentage.

A strong team start can hide a lot of individual stories, but this one keeps producing them. Alexis Lafrenire has been one of the most visible finishers, while Dylan Garand, Mika Zibanejad, Adam Fox, Will Cuylle, J.T. Miller and Tye Kartye have each added their own marks to the first stretch of the season. The bigger question now is whether this fast start is the foundation for something lasting, or just the kind of hot October that gets a lot louder once the schedule starts to bite. [Read more 🡒]

Rangers Suddenly Have A Big Crease Question After Shesterkin Injury

Igor Shesterkins season-ending injury has left the Rangers with a crease issue that suddenly matters a lot more than it did a few weeks ago, and Dylan Garand has been thrust into the conversation at just the right time. The young goaltender has handled the opening stretch well enough to give New York some reason for optimism, even as the larger reality remains that the team has had to pivot quickly after losing its No. 1 option.

Garands early work has helped steady things, but the situation still feels fragile for a Rangers team trying to keep its season on track without its star goalie. The organization now has to decide how much trust to place in a netminder who was not long ago viewed as depth, and the answer could shape how the rest of the year unfolds in front of him. Alexis Lafrenire Is Giving The Rangers A Needed Lift Right Now

Alexis Lafrenire has been giving the Rangers exactly the kind of jolt they have needed early this season, and his latest burst came against Tampa Bay. The winger scored twice in the first period, pushing his total to seven goals and giving him 10 points in eight games, a stretch that has put him among the league leaders and made his fast start impossible to ignore.

For a Rangers team trying to keep moving forward, Lafrenires surge has been one of the clearest positives in the lineup. His recent trend line has pointed up, and the timing matters even more with the team dealing with Igor Shesterkins season-ending injury, a blow that changes the margin for error and increases the need for its best skaters to keep driving the offense.
