The Hartford Wolf Pack have brought in a familiar NHL presence for added depth in goal, signing James Reimer to a professional tryout agreement, the club announced Tuesday.
Reimer, 38, is set to meet up with Hartford in Charlotte, N.C., this weekend. The move comes as the Wolf Pack also sent defenseman Anthony Kehrer to the ECHL’s Worcester Railers.
Reimer’s latest work came with the Ottawa Senators, where he played in 14 games during the 2025-26 season. He finished with a 7-4-2 record, along with a .886 save percentage, a 2.42 goals-against average and one shutout.
He also logged one appearance with the AHL’s Belleville Senators, stopping 22 shots in an overtime loss to the Rochester Americans on Jan. 11, 2026.
A native of Morweena, Manitoba, Reimer brings a long NHL résumé to Hartford. Over 16 seasons, he has played 539 career NHL games with Ottawa, Buffalo, Anaheim, Detroit, San Jose, Carolina, Florida and Toronto. His career line stands at 232-191-67 with a .909 save percentage, a 2.87 goals-against average and 32 shutouts.
Kehrer, 24, spent seven games with the Springfield Thunderbirds last season and has not appeared in a game for Hartford this season.
Before turning pro, the Winnipeg native played 166 NCAA games across five seasons at the University of Wisconsin, where he totaled 32 points on five goals and 27 assists. He wore an alternate captain’s letter for the Badgers in 2024-25 and was named the Big Ten’s Sportsmanship Award winner after that season.

Rangers Add Veteran Goalie Depth As Bigger Questions Still Linger
The Rangers quietly added some veteran insurance to their goaltending pipeline, bringing James Reimer aboard on a professional tryout agreement with AHL affiliate Hartford. It is the kind of depth move that does not change the big picture in New York right away, but it does give the Wolf Pack a more stable presence in net while the organization keeps sorting through its larger goalie picture.
The timing is notable because the Rangers still do not have complete clarity at the NHL level, and the front office may not be done searching for help. For now, this is about making sure Hartford is covered and giving the organization another experienced option to evaluate, with more goalie decisions potentially still ahead. [Read more 🡒]
Rangers-Affiliated Wolf Pack Suddenly Have A Skid Fans Can't Ignore
The Hartford Wolf Packs rough patch deepened with a 2-1 loss to the Charlotte Checkers at Bojangles Coliseum, their fourth straight defeat and a reminder that even a solid start can quickly get shaky in the AHL. Donovan Sebrango opened the scoring for Charlotte, and Bryce McConnell-Barker answered for Hartford, but the Rangers affiliate could not find enough to steady itself after a game that stayed tight for most of the night.
Hunter St. Martin broke the tie late in the third period to send the Checkers home with the win, adding another frustrating finish to a stretch the Wolf Pack would rather forget. For a team that had been undefeated away from home until now, the setback also marked its first road loss of the season, a jolt that makes the skid feel even more noticeable. [Read more 🡒]
Rangers Took One Bad Loss And The Overreaction Was Immediate
A lopsided night in New Jersey was enough to send the early-season conversation around the Rangers into a familiar place: a little too much sky-is-falling energy for a team that had otherwise started well. At 6-3-0, New York has already banked enough good work to make one bad outing feel more like a stumble than a verdict, even if the 7-1 loss to the Devils was hard to ignore.
Still, the reaction around the league moved fast, and it showed how thin the margin can be in October and November when power rankings are chasing form more than results. The Rangers have already beaten teams they needed to measure themselves against, which is why the sudden slide in perception feels more severe than the standing alone would suggest. [Read more 🡒]
