Hawks Rookie Drops Gloves In First NHL Fight

Hawks rookie Sacha Boisvert makes an impression in his first NHL fight against Will Borgen, as Chicago struggles against a dominant Rangers team at Madison Square Garden.

In just his second NHL outing, Chicago Blackhawks forward Sacha Boisvert found himself in the thick of the action, earning his first career fight against New York Rangers defenseman Will Borgen. The showdown took place late in a tough game at Madison Square Garden, with the Blackhawks trailing significantly.

The altercation erupted in the third period following a skirmish near the boards. Frustration was evident as the Blackhawks tried to assert themselves physically.

Boisvert, showing no hesitation, engaged with Borgen, and both players quickly dropped the gloves. The brief but intense exchange saw punches fly before the two hit the ice, resulting in five-minute fighting majors for both.

Despite Boisvert's spirited effort, the Blackhawks couldn't turn the tide, falling 6-1 to the Rangers. Chicago's lone bright spot came from Nick Lardis, who opened the scoring at 17:34 of the first period.

However, the lead was short-lived as Rangers captain J.T. Miller equalized just before the period ended.

The second period saw the Rangers seize control. Matthew Robertson put the hosts ahead 2-1, followed by Adam Sykora extending the lead to 3-1. Jonny Brodzinski added another, making it 4-1 as the period closed.

Rangers coach Mike Sullivan praised his team's performance, highlighting the energy and enthusiasm brought by the younger players. "You could see the enthusiasm that the young kids bring to the lineup. I think it's contagious, I think it's infectious with our veteran guys," Sullivan noted, reflecting on the solid team effort and the milestones achieved.

In the third, Alexis Lafreniere capitalized on a power play with a deft tip-in at 13:17, pushing the score to 5-1. Brodzinski then sealed the deal with his second goal of the night, securing a commanding 6-1 victory for the Rangers.

The game showcased the Rangers' depth and potential, while the Blackhawks will look to regroup and build on moments like Boisvert's spirited debut fight.
