SF Giants Boost Mets Bullpen With Key Late-March Roster Move

The New York Mets are eyeing former reliever Joey Lucchesi to strengthen their bullpen as Opening Day nears, addressing urgent needs with proven performance.

As the New York Mets prepare to finalize their roster with Opening Day fast approaching, the focus has shifted from potential to performance. It's crunch time, and the last bullpen spot is up for grabs. The Mets need someone who can deliver outs right now, not someone who might develop later.

Enter Joey Lucchesi, a familiar face who could be the answer to the Mets’ bullpen puzzle. Recently released by the San Francisco Giants, Lucchesi had a solid season, posting a 3.76 ERA over 38.1 innings. His ability to hold left-handed hitters to a .219 average with a .301 slugging percentage makes him an appealing choice for a team in need of reliable innings.

With Craig Kimbrel out of the equation and A.J. Minter expected back in about a month, the Mets are looking for a short-term solution.

The current options in camp haven't inspired much confidence. Bryan Hudson, for instance, struggled this spring, recording a 16.20 ERA over 3.1 innings, allowing five hits and three walks.

Richard Lovelady is also in contention, but hasn't shown enough to secure the role.

Lucchesi brings a level of dependability that the Mets need right now. His past performance with the Mets and recent stats suggest he can fill the gap effectively until Minter's return. The decision seems clear: rather than gamble on uncertain potential, the Mets should opt for the steady hand that Lucchesi offers.
