Howie Rose Announces Major Change for 2026 Mets Broadcasting Schedule

Veteran Mets broadcaster Howie Rose will scale back his game calls in 2026, balancing health and passion as he continues his legendary career.

In a move that reflects both dedication and adaptability, longtime Mets radio announcer Howie Rose is set to call 84 games during the 2026 regular season, a slight reduction from the 100 games he covered in 2025. At 72, Rose continues to be a cherished voice for Mets fans, bringing his seasoned insights to every home game at Citi Field and three crucial Subway Series matchups at Yankee Stadium this September. However, he’ll be taking a step back from traveling for road games.

This decision aligns with Rose's ongoing health considerations, as he has been gradually adjusting his workload following treatment for bladder cancer in 2021. Despite these changes, Rose remains committed to covering every Mets postseason game, both home and away, if the team advances to the playoffs.

Rose, who has been an integral part of the Mets broadcasting team since 1987 and joined the radio booth in 2004, continues to evaluate his career on a yearly basis. He’s not setting an end date just yet, weighing factors like health, the demands of preparation, and time spent away from his family. He humorously noted that his lack of prowess on the golf course ensures it won’t distract him from his broadcasting duties.

Alongside Rose, Keith Raad will return to the booth for the fourth straight season, with Pat McCarthy stepping in when Rose takes time off. Rose’s impact on the Mets community is undeniable, having been inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in 2023. His journey through the years saw him calling 125 games in 2023 and 101 in 2024, with a brief hiatus in 2021 for surgery.

Recently, Rose engaged in his traditional spring training chat with Mets owner Steve Cohen, sharing insights on the team’s social media platforms. He also expressed pride in nurturing the next generation of broadcasters, including talents like Wayne Randazzo, Pat McCarthy, Jake Eisenberg, and Keith Raad, all of whom have shared the booth with him in recent seasons.

As Rose continues to be a guiding voice for Mets fans, his presence remains a reassuring constant in the ever-evolving world of baseball broadcasting.
