Carlos Beltrn Chooses Mets Cap for Hall of Fame Plaque Honor

Carlos Beltrns Hall of Fame legacy will be forever linked to Queens, as he chooses the Mets cap for his Cooperstown plaque.

Carlos Beltrán is officially headed to Cooperstown wearing a Mets cap - a decision that not only cements his legacy but also puts him in elite company. When he’s inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this July, he’ll become just the third player to don a Mets cap on his plaque, joining franchise icons Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza.

Beltrán’s Hall of Fame nod came on January 20, when he earned 84.2% of the vote from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. And while his 20-year career spanned seven teams, it’s his time in Queens that truly defines his prime.

From age 27 to 34, Beltrán wore the orange and blue and delivered some of the most complete seasons in franchise history. In six and a half seasons with the Mets, he blasted 149 home runs, drove in 559 runs, and stole 100 bases.

That’s not just production - that’s impact. He made three All-Star teams in that span, picked up three Gold Gloves, and added two Silver Slugger Awards to his shelf.

One season stands out above the rest: 2006. Beltrán was a force that year, tying the Mets’ single-season home run record with 41 bombs and posting an 8.2 bWAR - a number that speaks to just how valuable he was on both sides of the ball. That same year, he helped power the Mets to a division title, reminding fans what a true five-tool star looks like in the heart of a playoff push.

Beyond his Mets tenure, Beltrán’s career numbers are eye-popping. He finished with 435 home runs and 312 stolen bases, making him one of just five players in MLB history to reach the 400-300 club. He debuted with the Royals, where he won Rookie of the Year, and closed out his playing days with a World Series title in Houston - a championship that remains clouded in controversy, but a ring nonetheless.

This summer, Beltrán will be inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside fellow stars Andruw Jones and Jeff Kent on July 26. He’ll also be honored by the Mets themselves, joining Lee Mazzilli and Bobby Valentine in the team’s Hall of Fame during a ceremony at Citi Field.

For Mets fans, this moment is more than just a Hall of Fame induction - it’s a celebration of one of the most dynamic players to ever wear the uniform. Carlos Beltrán wasn’t just a star in New York - he was a cornerstone, a game-changer, and now, officially, a Hall of Famer.
