Warriors Face Injury Woes and Add Reinforcements
The Golden State Warriors are navigating a tough stretch as injuries pile up. Ahead of their Friday night clash with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the team made a surprising late decision to bench Draymond Green due to a lower-back issue.
The game took a further toll as veteran big man Al Horford left the court just five minutes in, diagnosed with a right soleus strain. As the Warriors gear up for a Sunday showdown against the New York Knicks, they’ve moved quickly to bolster their roster, signing Omer Yurtseven to a 10-day contract.
Injury Report: A Growing Concern
The Warriors' injury list is daunting, with nine players sidelined for Sunday’s game. Some absences were expected, like Jimmy Butler, who continues his recovery from a torn ACL, and Steph Curry, who is on a 10-day re-evaluation timeline for a knee injury. Moses Moody also remains out, having missed five games with a wrist issue.
Draymond Green’s back problem will keep him out for a second consecutive game. Meanwhile, Al Horford’s timeline for return is still uncertain after his early exit on Friday.
Kristaps Porzingis remains a question mark, dealing with multiple setbacks, including an illness. The team is taking a cautious approach and will hold him out on Sunday.
Seth Curry, De’Anthony Melton, and Quenten Post are also listed as injured. Of these, Post has the best chance to suit up, with a 50/50 shot at playing.
The Yurtseven Addition
Enter Omer Yurtseven, a 27-year-old Turkish center, who brings depth to the Warriors’ lineup. Yurtseven made his NBA debut with the Miami Heat in 2021, appearing in 56 games during his rookie season. He averaged 12.6 minutes, shooting 52% from the field, with 5.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
In his second season, Yurtseven had limited appearances with the Heat before moving to the Utah Jazz in 2023. With the Jazz, he played 48 games, averaging 11.4 minutes, shooting 53%, and contributing 4.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Beyond the NBA, Yurtseven has honed his skills in the G League and boasts an impressive international resume, including titles in the Greek Cup and Turkish leagues. His addition provides the Warriors with a seasoned presence as they navigate this challenging period.
