Mike Brown Issues Subtle Officiating Shot After Thunder Loss

Knicks Head Coach Mike Brown subtly critiques officiating as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shines in Thunders victory.

The New York Knicks' recent struggles continued with a 111-100 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, marking their second straight defeat. A key talking point from the game was the officiating, particularly concerning Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Knicks head coach Mike Brown, in a somewhat humorous manner, commented on the situation, highlighting the Thunder's knack for drawing fouls.

“You can’t reach because the team does a fantastic job, starting with SGA, of getting the officials to believe a foul has occurred. Their gamesmanship is off the charts,’’ Brown said. “They do a great job of exploiting it, so I tip my hat off to them.”

The foul count was close, with the Knicks committing 25 fouls compared to the Thunder's 22. However, the disparity in free throws was notable.

The Knicks managed just 17 attempts, converting 13, while the Thunder capitalized on 38 attempts, sinking 31. Gilgeous-Alexander was a significant factor, taking 16 free throws and hitting 13, contributing to his 30-point performance.

Brown was more concerned with his team's response to the officiating. He noted their frustration and inability to adapt to how the game was being called, which only added to their woes.

“You can’t waste your energy against the officials, and we did that tonight - and it still didn’t change,” Brown continued. “[They still got calls].”

Regardless of the officiating, the Knicks' defeat drops them to a 48-27 record, placing them two and a half games behind the Boston Celtics for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks will need to regroup and refocus as they look to solidify their playoff position.
