The Knicks got the result they wanted Monday night, but Mikal Bridges’ night only deepened the concern around one of New York’s biggest early-season issues.

New York beat the Brooklyn Nets 103-90 for its third win in seven games in the 2026-27 season, yet Bridges again looked stuck in neutral. He finished with six points and two rebounds while shooting 1-of-7 from the field, and Mike Brown kept him on the floor for only 16 minutes.
Brown said Bridges needs to simplify things while he works through what the coach called a rough stretch.
“When you’re in a funk, you’ve got to find one or two things to hold your hat on. Mikal is one of the best runners in the NBA.
Both directions, offensively and defensively. He has to hang his hat on that, as well as his cutting and trying to do the other little things of rebounding and driving, touching the paint and spraying it and then his shot will come eventually,” Brown said, via SNY on X.
For a player who has never missed a game in his NBA career, this slump has stood out. Bridges averaged 14-4-4 last season, so the current version has been a jarring drop-off. Through this rough patch, he’s down to 6.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
The Knicks are still giving him room to work through it, but the leash could tighten if the numbers don’t start moving in the right direction. Brown and the team, though, appear willing to keep riding it out, especially with Bridges having shown in the playoffs that he can sometimes just need time to find his rhythm again.

Mike Brown Is Sending An Early Message With Knicks Rookie Tyler Kolek
The Knicks win over the Nets at Madison Square Garden offered another small but telling glimpse into how Mike Brown is approaching his rotation early in the season. With New York now 3-4, Brown gave rookie point guard Tyler Kolek a short run and showed enough trust to keep him in the mix, even as the game leaned on more established contributors to steady things.
Landry Shamet led the scoring with 22 points, while Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby helped carry the load as the Knicks continue sorting out their depth. Jose Alvarado also returned and logged nine minutes, adding a block in his first action back, but the bigger takeaway was Browns willingness to give Kolek a real look as New York keeps shaping its backcourt picture. Josh Hart Sees One Early Knicks Strength That Could Matter Most
The Knicks left Barclays Center with a 103-90 win over the Nets, and the most encouraging part for Josh Hart was not the final score so much as where the help came from. With the starters going through a rough shooting night, New York leaned on its second unit, and Jordan Clarkson and Tyler Kolek were among the reserves who helped steady the game and keep the offense moving.
Hart pointed to that depth as an early strength that could matter as the season wears on. For a team that expects its top group to carry a heavy load, getting a real lift from the bench in a game like this is the kind of sign that can change how the Knicks navigate tougher stretches ahead. Tyler Kolek Just Made The Knicks Backup Point Guard Battle Real
Tyler Kolek has turned the Knicks backup point guard conversation into something real early in the 2026-27 season. His offensive play has stood out, and the early numbers back it up, with Kolek carrying one of the leagues best assist-to-turnover ratios while showing the kind of control the Knicks have been looking for behind the starter.
Jose Alvarados return from injury was supposed to make the rotation picture clearer, but Kolek still got meaningful fourth-quarter run against the Brooklyn Nets and delivered enough key plays to help New York build its lead. For a Knicks team that values steadiness at the point, that kind of trust in a tight game says plenty, and it leaves the backup job looking more like a live competition than a formality.
