Knicks Fans Furious As Isiah Thomas Returns To A Formal Role

Knicks fans are aghast at the return of Isiah Thomas, fearing a familiar chapter of controversy and disappointing performance may unfold once again.

The Knicks’ decision to bring Isiah Thomas back into the organization is already drawing a sharp reaction from fans, and not the good kind.

On Wednesday, the New York Basketball announced on X that Thomas will take on a management role with the franchise. The Pistons legend is set to join the board of directors when the Knicks become a public company in the first week of the season.

Thomas is no stranger to New York. He previously served as the Knicks’ president of basketball operations from 2003 to 2008, and during the final two years of that stretch, he also named himself the team’s head coach.

That history is exactly why the announcement landed so badly with a lot of fans, who quickly filled the comments with frustration.

“Knicks finally win a ring, and Dolan is doing whatever he can to bring us back to the NBA basement,” one fan said.

“Born in Chicago, played college at Indiana. Detroit Pistons legend.

Coached Pacers but always got a job in NY. Why isn’t he ever back at the Pistons in their organization?

Seems weird,” another fan said.

“How the h**l Zeke is still getting any job, let alone a BOARD position, is beyond my comprehension,” another fan commented.

Other responses followed the same tone.

“Just keep him away from the team and any real decision making,” one fan commented.

“One thing Isiah always did unwaveringly was be a loyal vote for Dolan. No surprises there. Just keep him away from Leon, Coach Brown and the boys,” another fan commented.

“What an incredibly dumb move, but so typical of Dolan,” another fan said.

According to The New York Post, Thomas’ new job is a standard board of directors position that reports to shareholders and does not involve roster decisions or basketball operations.

Still, the backlash makes sense given Thomas’ past in the Knicks’ front office. During his time as president of basketball operations, New York reached the playoffs only once, in the 2003-04 season, and was knocked out by the rival New Jersey Nets in the first round.

Thomas’ tenure also included a major legal case. In 2006, former franchise executive Anucha Browne Sanders filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against him, alleging that Thomas subjected her to insults and unwanted sexual advances and that she was fired for reporting his behavior.

The case went to trial, and in October 2007 a Manhattan federal jury ruled in Thomas’ favor on personal damages while awarding Sanders $11.6 million in punitive damages. MSG and James Dolan were held liable for the payment.

Knicks Face A Roster Crunch With One Final Spot Suddenly Crucial

With the Knicks operating under the NBA salary caps second apron, even the margin for roster tinkering has become a real issue. After losing Mitchell Robinson and bringing in Andre Drummond, New York still has a clear need behind its frontcourt depth, and the club has been piecing together its training camp mix with veterans and two-way players while trying to preserve as much flexibility as possible.

Tony Bradley has entered the conversation as part of that camp competition, joining Drew Eubanks and James Wiseman in the fight for what amounts to a critical depth role. The Knicks have one standard contract spot left, but limited cap maneuverability has made any move harder to pull off, and the lack of strong trade interest in Pacme Dadiet only adds another layer to a roster puzzle that is still waiting on a clean solution. Spike Lee Got Pulled Into An Ugly Scene At Yankee Stadium

Spike Lee found himself in the middle of an ugly moment at Yankee Stadium before Game 2 of the Yankees Wild Card Series, turning a normally routine playoff night into something far more tense. Stadium staff had to step in and hold Lee back after a fan confronted him in a scene that quickly drew attention in a ballpark already buzzing with postseason pressure.

The confrontation started with a political question from the fan, who was then removed from the area as the situation settled down. Lee, meanwhile, stayed put and watched the game anyway, a reminder that even on a night built around baseball, the crowd can find a way to make something else the main event. [Read more 🡒]

Knicks Face A Costly Core Decision With Miles McBride Looming

The Knicks are already navigating a tighter financial picture after Mitchell Robinsons departure to the Boston Celtics, and the next layer of business is starting to come into focus. With Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart and Miles McBride all part of the conversation, coach Brown made clear the organization has important extension decisions ahead, even if those talks are happening well above his pay grade.

Brown said he trusts Leon Rose and McBrides representatives to sort through the details, while also acknowledging he does not really understand how the cap works. It is a familiar divide for a contender trying to keep its core intact: the front office handles the math, the coaches manage the basketball, and for now the Knicks are left hoping the two sides line up before the situation gets any more complicated.
