Knicks Face A Tough Final Roster Call On Bruce Brown

Should the Knicks make room for a seasoned NBA champion and trade one of their own?

The Knicks have spent training camp sorting through veteran options for one last roster spot, and Bruce Brown has done enough to stay in the conversation.

Brown arrived as one of the more interesting invites, but his path to a standard deal was complicated by New York’s cap situation. He wound up on an Exhibit 10 contract instead, even after coming off a season in which he played 82 games for a title contender. As Stefan Bondy of the New York Post wrote, the market for him was thin and the same obstacle kept coming up: “the second apron.”

That has left the Knicks juggling priorities. The team still needs another center, and The Athletic’s James L.

Edwards III said New York will likely use the 14th roster spot on that need. James Wiseman has been the first big man on a training-camp deal to check in during games, with Drew Eubanks and Tony Bradley behind him.

Edwards added that the Knicks “should strongly consider adding Bruce Brown to the main roster given his championship experience and positional versatility, but all signs point to the team keeping a center right now.”

SNY’s Ian Begley took it a step further, saying the Knicks may need to move someone if they want to keep Brown. “Bruce Brown has also put himself in good position to get roster spot, but Knicks would need to trade a rostered player to make that happen.

Brown, in my opinion, would be a great value addition for the Knicks, giving them strong veteran depth in case of injury. ESPN reported Eubanks will be waived after suffering pectoral injury,” Begley posted.

Brown’s appeal is easy to see. He brings championship experience, gives New York another versatile piece, and can help spell Josh Hart or Jalen Brunson when needed. In that sense, he looks like the kind of player every contender wants sitting at the end of the bench: reliable, adaptable, and ready to do whatever is asked.

Nets Are Suddenly In The Middle Of A Karl-Anthony Towns Debate

Karl-Anthony Towns has already become one of the more complicated talking points around the Knicks, and the uncertainty comes from more than just basketball fit. With Leon Rose and James Dolan involved on the executive side, the team is facing the kind of internal balancing act that can shape a decision long before it reaches the trade market.

If the Knicks do decide to move Towns, there would not be a shortage of interested teams, with the Brooklyn Nets and Chicago Bulls among the clubs mentioned as possible suitors because of their cap space and roster fit. Nothing is imminent, but the important part is that New York controls the situation, and any call on Towns would be theirs to make. [Read more 🡒]

Former Knicks Big Man Suddenly In The Middle Of Lakers Trade Buzz

The Lakers are trying to sort through a tricky roster decision before the deadline, and one former Knicks big man has surfaced in the conversation. Los Angeles is looking at trade possibilities that could help it avoid waiving Dalton Knecht, with the front office exploring different ways to reshape the back end of the roster while also keeping an eye on draft-pick value.

Jericho Sims is among the names being discussed as part of those talks, with Milwaukee and Memphis also mentioned as teams that could factor into the mix. Nothing has been finalized, and the conversations remain exploratory, but it is another reminder that players the Knicks once developed can pop back into the leagues trade chatter in a hurry. Knicks Could Still Make One More Bench Move Before Opening Night

The Knicks trimmed their preseason group by waiving Ochai Agbaji, Tony Bradley and Drew Eubanks before the final exhibition, a move that clarified the immediate roster picture but did not quite finish it. Eubanks was already out with a torn pectoral muscle, and the reshuffling around the end of the bench now leaves New York in a familiar late-October spot, with a few names still hanging around on the edge of the roster conversation.

Bruce Brown and James Wiseman are still on non-guaranteed deals, and the Knicks have the financial room to add one more veteran minimum contract if they decide they want extra depth before opening night. Around the league, similar end-of-roster decisions are still unfolding for players like Cisse, Sims, Peavy, Tshiebwe and Potter, but for the Knicks the bigger question is whether they use that flexibility now or let the group they have carry into the start of the season.
