Knicks Face A Costly Core Decision With Miles McBride Looming

With the New York Knicks striving to retain their championship core under financial constraints, Coach Mike Brown's confidence in the front office's strategic planning-particularly regarding Miles McBride's contract extension-highlights the synergy b

Mike Brown isn’t sounding the alarm about Miles McBride’s next contract, and that’s probably because he trusts the people who actually handle that part of the job.

The Knicks coach was asked Wednesday about McBride’s extension situation, and he leaned into the bigger-picture message he’s been pushing: championship teams get tested, and the hard stuff gets sorted out inside the organization. Brown closed by saying it’s easy for the Knicks to stay focused on basketball because “things get taken care of the right way” within the team.

That confidence matters now more than ever for a Knicks group that has already taken a hit with Mitchell Robinson gone to the Boston Celtics. For fans, that move made the idea of keeping the rest of the championship core feel a little less certain.

New York has been trying to avoid going past the second apron of the NBA salary cap, just like plenty of other teams around the league. But unlike anyone else, the Knicks are doing it as reigning NBA Champions.

The group on the extension clock includes two starters, Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart, plus McBride, who has become the longest-tenured player on the roster after Robinson’s departure. Their place in the title run has made it easy to assume the Knicks will eventually do what it takes to keep them around, even if Robinson’s exit has made some fans uneasy about how that plays out.

Brown addressed McBride’s future at the practice facility in Tarrytown and made clear where his trust lies.

"At the end of the day, he wants to be here, we want him to be here, and that's something that I have faith in Leon, and even Deuce's representatives, to figure that out. I said this before, it literally is, the cap's above my head. I don't know how it works," Brown said, according to a video of his availability shared by SNY.

That kind of answer fits the way Brown has handled media so far in his short time with the Knicks. He’s been more open than local reporters had come to expect in recent years, but he still knows where the boundaries are.

He can talk about the basketball side. The contract side belongs to Leon Rose.

And Brown has reason to believe the front office can handle it. The Knicks, from his perspective, have already shown they know how to navigate this sort of roster-building maze. He also pointed to the current NBA reality, where players like Jalen Brunson and Victor Wembanyama are willing to leave tens of millions on the table if it helps their teams stay in position to contend over the next several seasons.

Knicks Face A Roster Crunch With One Final Spot Suddenly Crucial

With the Knicks operating under the NBA salary caps second apron, even the margin for roster tinkering has become a real issue. After losing Mitchell Robinson and bringing in Andre Drummond, New York still has a clear need behind its frontcourt depth, and the club has been piecing together its training camp mix with veterans and two-way players while trying to preserve as much flexibility as possible.

Tony Bradley has entered the conversation as part of that camp competition, joining Drew Eubanks and James Wiseman in the fight for what amounts to a critical depth role. The Knicks have one standard contract spot left, but limited cap maneuverability has made any move harder to pull off, and the lack of strong trade interest in Pacme Dadiet only adds another layer to a roster puzzle that is still waiting on a clean solution. Spike Lee Got Pulled Into An Ugly Scene At Yankee Stadium

Spike Lee found himself in the middle of an ugly moment at Yankee Stadium before Game 2 of the Yankees Wild Card Series, turning a normally routine playoff night into something far more tense. Stadium staff had to step in and hold Lee back after a fan confronted him in a scene that quickly drew attention in a ballpark already buzzing with postseason pressure.

The confrontation started with a political question from the fan, who was then removed from the area as the situation settled down. Lee, meanwhile, stayed put and watched the game anyway, a reminder that even on a night built around baseball, the crowd can find a way to make something else the main event. [Read more 🡒]

Knicks Can Finally Breathe Easier About Jalen Brunsons Wrist

Jalen Brunsons offseason took a necessary turn toward normal this week, with the guard cleared to take part in Knicks training camp after the wrist issues that followed him into the summer. The recovery comes after he played through discomfort deep into the playoffs, and it gives New York a much cleaner runway as it begins preparing for the new season.

For the Knicks, the biggest gain is simply having Brunson available without limitations when camp opens. A healthy start matters for a team that leans heavily on its point guards steadiness, and the medical clearance means the staff can finally focus on basketball instead of wondering how much the wrist would linger into October.
