Josh Hart didn’t waste any time pointing to the Knicks’ supporting cast after Monday night’s 103-90 win over the Brooklyn Nets.
The box score had plenty of familiar names, but the real lift came from the players outside the spotlight. New York moved to 3-4 on the new season thanks in large part to a bench group that swung the game when the starters weren’t finding their rhythm.
Jordan Clarkson was the spark. In only 11 minutes, he brought energy, knocked down timely shots and finished with a plus-17. Tyler Kolek made his minutes count too, as the Knicks outscored Brooklyn by 13 points during the five minutes he was on the floor.
Hart made sure those efforts got noticed.
“We talked about [Clarkson] earlier, Landry (Shamet), I mean, he had big threes. That third quarter kept us in it.
Jose (Alvarado) played well. Ty (Kolek) played well.
[Andre Drummond], I think he had to win like nine rebounds, ten rebounds in, like, 11 or 12 minutes,” Hart said, via SNY Knicks on X.
"It shows you the depth that we have, that it could be anybody's night on any given night"

“It shows you the depth that we have, that it could be anybody's night on any given night.”
That depth mattered because the top of the rotation was uneven. Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns combined for 30 points on 10-of-27 shooting.
OG Anunoby added 18 points but went 4-of-10 from the field. Mikal Bridges had a rough night as well, scoring six points in 16 minutes before head coach Mike Brown benched him.
With the Knicks still trying to find their footing early in the season, the bench’s production was the difference in a game they needed to have against a Nets team that has been struggling.

Mike Brown Is Sending An Early Message With Knicks Rookie Tyler Kolek
The Knicks win over the Nets at Madison Square Garden offered another small but telling glimpse into how Mike Brown is approaching his rotation early in the season. With New York now 3-4, Brown gave rookie point guard Tyler Kolek a short run and showed enough trust to keep him in the mix, even as the game leaned on more established contributors to steady things.
Landry Shamet led the scoring with 22 points, while Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby helped carry the load as the Knicks continue sorting out their depth. Jose Alvarado also returned and logged nine minutes, adding a block in his first action back, but the bigger takeaway was Browns willingness to give Kolek a real look as New York keeps shaping its backcourt picture. Knicks May Be Reaching A Breaking Point With Mikal Bridges
The Knicks got the win over Brooklyn, but Mikal Bridges night was a reminder that not everything is clicking in New York just yet. Bridges managed only six points on 1-of-7 shooting and was limited to 16 minutes, an outing that fit the broader concern around his early-season form. Head coach Mike Brown acknowledged the slump and said Bridges needs to lean into the parts of his game that have made him valuable.
What makes the stretch more notable is how far Bridges current production has dipped from what he delivered last season, which has naturally raised questions about his role and fit. For a Knicks team trying to build consistency, getting him back on track matters beyond one box score. The hope is still there that he can rediscover his rhythm, but the margin for patience is getting thinner. [Read more 🡒]
Tyler Kolek Just Made The Knicks Backup Point Guard Battle Real
Tyler Kolek has turned the Knicks backup point guard conversation into something real early in the 2026-27 season. His offensive play has stood out, and the early numbers back it up, with Kolek carrying one of the leagues best assist-to-turnover ratios while showing the kind of control the Knicks have been looking for behind the starter.
Jose Alvarados return from injury was supposed to make the rotation picture clearer, but Kolek still got meaningful fourth-quarter run against the Brooklyn Nets and delivered enough key plays to help New York build its lead. For a Knicks team that values steadiness at the point, that kind of trust in a tight game says plenty, and it leaves the backup job looking more like a live competition than a formality.
