The Memphis Grizzlies have officially added some fresh talent to their roster, signing Adama-Alpha Bal to a 10-day contract. This move, confirmed by the team, brings the French forward into the fold as Memphis navigates a challenging stretch of the season.
Bal, who went undrafted out of Santa Clara, has been making his mark with the NBA G League’s Westchester Knicks. Standing at 6-foot-7, he's shown flashes of potential, averaging 7.4 points and 1.8 rebounds over 29 games this season, while clocking in 18.4 minutes per game. Although his shooting percentage sits at 35.4 percent from the field, his time in college paints a broader picture of his capabilities.
During his tenure at Santa Clara, Bal was a two-time All-WCC First Team selection. In his senior year, he posted impressive numbers with 13.4 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game. His shooting from beyond the arc was a notable strength, hitting 36.9 percent over 107 college games, which also included stints with Arizona.
The Grizzlies are currently navigating a wave of injuries, leading to multiple hardship exceptions. With six players declared out for the season and three others missing the recent game against Houston, these 10-day contracts are crucial. Alongside Bal, Memphis has also brought in Tyler Burton and DeJon Jarreau on similar short-term deals.
This influx of new talent offers the Grizzlies a chance to test different dynamics on the court, as they look to manage their roster through this injury-laden period. Bal’s addition could provide a spark, and it’ll be interesting to see how he integrates into the team’s system during this opportunity.
