Tom Cruise turned up at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night, and he didn’t exactly blend into the background.
The actor was spotted sitting with Taylor Swift during the first quarter of the Chiefs-Broncos matchup on “Monday Night Football,” giving him one of the most talked-about seats in the building. Swift was there to support her husband, Travis Kelce, as he begins what could be his final season.
The NFL highlighted the moment on social media, showing Cruise and Swift together in the house for the game.
Why Cruise was at Chiefs-Broncos wasn’t immediately clear. What is clear is that he’s no stranger to big sports moments. Cruise was part of Fox’s Super Bowl 59 broadcast two seasons ago, appearing in an introductory video before the Chiefs met the Eagles.
He also has the profile of someone who could show up just about anywhere and make it feel like an event. Even if he doesn’t live near Kansas City, the chance to take in one of the week’s biggest games next to a global superstar was hard to turn down.
As for his NFL allegiance, Cruise isn’t known to be a Chiefs fan. He hasn’t publicly committed to a team, though Jimmy Kimmel said in 2022 that Cruise is a Giants fan. That would fit, at least on paper, since Cruise was born in upstate New York and attended high school in New Jersey.
If that Giants connection is real, then Week 1 had to feel pretty good for him. But on Monday night, as a guest of Swift in her suite at Arrowhead, Cruise was a Chiefs fan for at least one evening.
