The New York Jets added plenty of youth to their pass-catching group after the NFL draft, but Tim Patrick has quickly given that room something it needed: a steady veteran presence.
Adonai Mitchell made it clear the 32-year-old has already earned respect inside the building. When asked about Patrick, Mitchell pointed to the intangibles that come with a seasoned player.
“He brings a lot of experience, a lot of guidance,” said Mitchell. “He’s definitely our leader in the room, I’ll say that.”
That kind of praise matters, especially for a Jets receiver group that was among the youngest in the league after the draft. Patrick signed with the team in May, and while the move was easy to read as a depth addition built around leadership, there’s more to his game than that.
Patrick still showed he can help on Sundays. In 2025 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he caught 15 of 24 targets for 187 yards and three touchdowns. Before that, in 2024 with the Detroit Lions, he put up 394 yards and three touchdowns on 33 catches across 16 games, including nine starts.
There’s also a dirty-work element to his value. Patrick can help as a run blocker, which gives him another way to stay on the field.
In each of the last three seasons, his run-blocking grade at Pro Football Focus has landed above 60.0, and last year he posted a 64.9 mark. That ranked sixth among 74 qualified wide receivers with at least 200 run-blocking snaps.
So even if Patrick arrived with the reputation of a veteran teacher, he’s already making an internal impact in camp, according to Mitchell, who is 23. The message from inside the room is pretty clear: Patrick is there for more than just experience.
