The NFL Scouting Combine, often dubbed the “Underwear Olympics,” is in full swing, and the New York Jets are keeping a close eye on the action. They're particularly focused on the quarterback prospects, even though it's unlikely they'll use an early pick on one unless Alabama’s Ty Simpson catches their eye. Instead, they might be in the market for a developmental quarterback in the later rounds.
Enter Drew Allar from Penn State, a name that’s generating buzz. After a season-ending ankle injury cut his college career short, Allar is back to full health and ready to showcase his skills in Indianapolis. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Allar is set to throw at the combine, a crucial step in his journey back into the draft conversation.
Allar’s journey has been a rollercoaster. In 2024, he was a standout performer, leading Penn State to the College Football Playoff semifinals.
His stats were impressive-ranking seventh in completion percentage at 66.5% and sixth in yards per attempt with 8.4. Despite this, he chose to stay another year at Penn State, a decision that, coupled with his injury, saw his draft stock take a hit.
Now ranked No. 116 on the Mock Draft Database’s consensus big board, Allar is a player to watch. A solid performance at Lucas Oil Stadium could elevate him into Day 2 consideration for teams in need of a quarterback.
Conversely, if things don’t go as planned, he might remain a Day 3 prospect. The stakes are high, and all eyes will be on him as he takes the field.
