The New York Jets are heading into another pivotal offseason, and once again, the quarterback position is front and center. With Frank Reich now shaping the offense, the Jets are expected to cast a wide net in their search for a veteran signal-caller-someone who can not only run Reich’s system but also serve as a steady bridge while the team figures out its long-term plan under center.
While names like Kirk Cousins and Carson Wentz are bound to surface-thanks to their ties to Reich-there’s another veteran who might not spark the same headlines but could be a seamless fit: Jacoby Brissett.
Brissett isn’t the flashiest option on the board, but his history with Reich is worth paying attention to. Back in 2019, Reich’s second year coaching the Colts, Brissett stepped in following Andrew Luck’s sudden retirement.
He started 15 games that season, throwing 18 touchdowns to just six interceptions, and led the team to a 7-8 record. Those numbers don’t scream superstar, but they do point to a quarterback who can manage games, protect the football, and run the offense the way Reich wants it run.
And that’s exactly what the Jets might need right now.
This offense struggled mightily last season, ranking near the bottom of the league across most major categories. Fixing that isn’t just about plugging in a big-name quarterback-it’s about finding someone who can stabilize the unit, help younger players get up to speed, and keep the team competitive while the front office reshapes the roster.
Brissett’s familiarity with Reich’s system would eliminate the typical growing pains that come with a new scheme. That’s a big deal for a team that doesn’t have time to waste.
Beyond the X’s and O’s, Brissett brings something else that can’t be overlooked: leadership. He’s widely respected across the league as a locker-room presence, the kind of guy who can command a huddle but also step aside if the team decides to draft and develop a younger quarterback. That level of professionalism and self-awareness is rare-and incredibly valuable for a team in transition.
Now, that’s not to say the Jets won’t explore bigger names. Kirk Cousins has a strong relationship with Reich, and Carson Wentz had his best years under him in Philadelphia.
Both would make sense on paper. But when you factor in cost, scheme familiarity, and locker-room fit, Brissett might be the most practical option on the table.
The Jets don’t need a savior-they need a stabilizer. And in Jacoby Brissett, they might just find the right quarterback to guide them through this next phase.
