The New York Jets are eyeing improvements on defense this offseason, particularly at linebacker, as they continue to reshape their unit under head coach Aaron Glenn. Last season, the Jets' defense struggled significantly, and with several defensive players potentially leaving in free agency, changes are on the horizon.
One name popping up in discussions is veteran linebacker Alex Anzalone. Known for his time with the Detroit Lions, Anzalone could be a key piece in Glenn’s plans. Despite Glenn's decision not to bring former players with him in his first year, the familiarity Anzalone offers could be invaluable as Glenn sets the tone for Year 2.
Anzalone, who will be turning 32 in September, spent five seasons in Detroit, four of which were under Glenn’s guidance as defensive coordinator. With Quincy Williams likely not returning and Jamien Sherwood coming off a tough 2025 season, Anzalone’s presence could fill a crucial gap both on the field and in the locker room.
From a strategic standpoint, adding Anzalone makes a lot of sense. His experience with Glenn’s system could be instrumental in turning around the Jets' defense. However, whether Anzalone is interested in joining the Jets remains an open question.
