The New York Jets could be looking for another piece on defense, and one trade idea has them targeting Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker SirVocea Dennis.
In the proposal from Moton, the Jets would send a late 2027 pick to Tampa Bay in exchange for Dennis. The logic is straightforward: New York has a veteran in Demario Davis, but the long-term picture at linebacker still needs attention.
“At 37, Demario Davis is a starting-caliber linebacker on a two-year deal," Moton wrote. "The Jets must consider the future at the position-someone to pair alongside Jamien Sherwood.
Gang Green may be able to bring in Dennis for a late-round pick. He could be the odd man out after the Buccaneers overhauled their linebacker group.
As a first-time, full-time starter last year, he logged 101 tackles (10 for loss) and three sacks. The 26-year-old needs to sharpen his coverage technique, but he still has some upside."
Dennis spent last season with Tampa Bay and finished with three sacks, 66 solo tackles, 10 tackles for loss and seven QB hits in 16 games. He has been in the league since 2023 and has totaled four sacks, 91 solo tackles, 11 tackles for loss and eight QB hits in his NFL career.
The idea comes as the Jets try to move forward from a brutal 3-14 season in Year 1 of the Aaron Glenn era. New York became the first team in NFL history to go through a season without a defensive interception and to lose five straight games by 23 or more points.
Glenn is set to handle defensive play-calling next season, leaving the Jets to find out whether that change actually lifts the unit. The expectation, at least for now, is that the team still may miss the playoffs. Even so, the roster looks far better than it did a year ago after a strong draft and offseason.
In the 2026 draft, the Jets added David Bailey, Kenyon Sadiq, Omar Cooper Jr., D'Angelo Ponds, Darrell Jackson Jr., Cade Klubnik, Anez Cooper and VJ Payne.
Before that, they made several notable moves, bringing in Geno Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders, Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins and T'Vondre Sweat from the Tennessee Titans. They also signed Demario Davis and Tim Patrick in free agency.
Looking ahead to Year 2 of the Glenn era, the Jets’ schedule includes the Titans, Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, Dolphins, Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings.
