The Jets made the kind of trade deadline moves last year that can reshape a franchise in a hurry. Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams were sent out, and New York came away with three first-round picks, a second-rounder and Adonai Mitchell. Those deals have already paid off in a big way, and if things break right, the Jets could be sitting on three top-10 picks in the 2027 NFL Draft.
So it would be fair to expect another aggressive deadline from New York this season. But ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler says the league buzz points in the opposite direction.
“Rival teams I’ve spoken to believe the Jets will try to snag a few wins as opposed to dealing players,” Fowler reports.
That suggests a quieter deadline is more likely for the Jets, with the team leaning toward keeping its roster together rather than making another splash. Several names that have drawn attention don’t appear to be on the move.
Breece Hall has been at the center of speculation with Braelon Allen thriving, but Fowler doesn’t see him going anywhere. The same goes for players such as Will McDonald IV and Garrett Wilson.
“I would be surprised if the Jets moved running back Breece Hall or other major players based on conversations this week,” Fowler reports.
There still could be a small move or two, and Nahshon Wright stands out as a possible trade chip. But the sense around the team is that the big names are staying put.
That would mark a different kind of deadline for New York after last year’s blockbuster activity. Darren Mougey appears to be trending toward keeping most of the roster intact as the Jets try to keep building. With the team getting closer to contending, moving players under long-term control may not make much sense right now.

Jets Suddenly Pulled Into Giants Trade Deadline Scenario
With the NFL trade deadline closing in, the market around Jonathan Taylor is starting to draw in more than one New York team. Taylor is still with the Indianapolis Colts, but he is widely expected to be moved, and the Giants are reportedly among the clubs pushing hardest to land him as they look for help in the backfield.
If the Giants miss out on Taylor, another name has surfaced in the conversation: Breece Hall. The Jets have said they do not plan to trade him, which makes the idea more of a speculative fallback than a real indication of movement, but it is a reminder of how quickly deadline chatter can spread once a premium running back becomes available. Jets Suddenly Have A Breece Hall Problem They Didn't Expect
Breece Halls injury absence has given the Jets a much clearer look at Braelon Allen, and the rookie has made the most of it. Over the past five games, Allen has forced his way into the conversation as a real part of the offense, showing the kind of power and consistency that can change how a coaching staff thinks about its backfield rotation.
Now the challenge is less about finding carries than figuring out how to distribute them once Hall is back. Hall and Allen bring different skill sets to the same position, and the Jets will have to sort out how to keep both involved without dulling either ones impact. It is the kind of good problem teams hope for, even if it comes with a little extra pressure on the staff to make it work. [Read more 🡒]
Aaron Glenn Takes A Stand In Jets Breece Hall-Braelon Allen Debate
Breece Halls absence has forced the Jets to sort through their backfield without much room for ambiguity, and Aaron Glenn has already made his preference clear. Even with Braelon Allen turning heads while Hall has been sidelined by a quad injury, Glenn confirmed Hall will remain the teams starting running back once he is back in the mix.
Hall has not played since Week 3, and there is still no timetable for his return, which leaves the Jets navigating a shaky stretch with a 2-6 record and the Chiefs up next. Glenn, who recently received a five-year contract extension, is trying to keep the depth chart steady while the team waits to see when its top back can actually get back on the field. [Read more 🡒]
