The Chiefs look like the cleanest path in Week 3 survivor pools, but the Lions are the move if you want to think a little further ahead.
Kansas City heads to Miami with the kind of profile that makes survivor players feel good about sleeping at night. The Chiefs are 2-0, the Dolphins are “the worst team in the NFL for my money,” and Kansas City’s offense has been rolling at a ridiculous clip.
Through two weeks, the Chiefs are averaging a league-best 457.5 yards per game and 32 points. Even with the game in Miami, the gap in firepower feels hard to ignore.
Detroit, though, is the more strategic play. The Lions are 1-1, and they’re home against the Jets as 6.5-point favorites.
New York isn’t the automatic soft spot many expected before the season, but Detroit still has the better team and a more favorable setup. A few other popular-looking favorites this week come with their own problems - road trips or divisional matchups for the Bengals, Panthers, Texans and 49ers - which makes the Lions stand out even more.
There’s also a calendar angle here. Detroit doesn’t get another home game against a team projected to be bad until Week 14 against the Titans. That makes this a smart week to use them, especially against a defense that could produce a volatile result.
The Jets are no pushover, either. They’re an overtime loss to the Packers away from being 2-0, and their offense has been more competent than expected. That said, the Lions are still difficult to slow down, and New York hasn’t faced a back like Jahmyr Gibbs yet this season.
After last week’s Tampa Bay upset loss shook up survivor contests, the caution flag is still up. Circa Survivor said Monday that 36 percent of its $25 million contest was eliminated by the Buccaneers’ loss to the Browns. That kind of wipeout is a reminder that even the “safe” picks come with risk, and it’s why Tampa was still viewed as the most strategic play before the result went sideways.
For now, the safest name on the board is Kansas City. The sharpest long-term choice is Detroit.

Geno Smith Is Climbing Jets History Faster Than Fans Expected
Geno Smiths latest run has given the Jets something they havent had much of lately: a quarterback moving up the franchise record book in a hurry. Through his first two games with New York, Smith has completed 70.8 percent of his passes and piled up 462 yards, production that has him 12th leaguewide in passing yards and already into 10th place on the Jets all-time list.
The climb is notable because it has come so quickly, with Smith now within striking distance of Ryan Fitzpatrick for ninth on that list.
