The New York Jets are looking to turn the tide on their offensive struggles, and they believe they've found the right team to do it. With the hiring of Frank Reich as the new offensive coordinator and play-caller, there's a buzz around the league about the potential transformation of the Jets' offense. Reich, a former quarterback and Super Bowl-winning coordinator, brings a wealth of experience to a team that had one of the youngest coaching staffs last season.
While the youthful staff in 2025 wasn't the sole reason for the Jets' challenges, the organization is optimistic that these coaching changes can redefine their offensive outlook.
Jets Revamp Offensive Coaching Staff
At the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, head coach Aaron Glenn shared why Reich was the right choice for the Jets. Reich's ability to stabilize offenses was a key factor, but it was his recent stint at Stanford that piqued Glenn's interest the most.
“He was coaching at Stanford, and that’s another notch on our belt,” Glenn said. “Once you go back to college, there are certain things on offense that you can bring to the league.”
Joining Reich are new hires Bill Musgrave as the quarterback coach and Seth Ryan, son of former Jets head coach Rex Ryan, as the passing game coordinator. The Jets are confident that these fresh faces will help innovate and modernize their offensive strategies.
“There are a number of young coaches on this staff that [will] be able to help him innovate,” Glenn added. “I look forward to some of these young guys putting their spin on how they think the offense should operate.”
Glenn believes the blend of Reich’s experience with the new ideas from Ryan, Musgrave, and others could be the key to unlocking the Jets' offensive potential.
Quarterback Questions Loom
Despite the coaching shake-up, the Jets' offensive success will largely hinge on the quarterback position. Justin Fields remains on the roster, but General Manager Darren Mougey emphasized that the team is exploring all options.
“Justin’s on the roster, and just like every other position, we’re going to evaluate the quarterback position through every landscape, whether that’s trade, on the street, free agency, to see what we can add to the team.”
Fields, a former first-round pick, has faced multiple benchings and led a struggling passing offense, suggesting the team might be ready to move on.
The search for a new quarterback will focus on finding a player who fits Reich’s system. Reich has historically succeeded with quarterbacks who possess a strong arm and a big frame, like Andrew Luck, Carson Wentz, and Nick Foles. The market offers several options that fit this mold.
With a new offensive leader in place, the Jets are poised to reshape their unit in 2026. The next critical step will be finding the right quarterback to execute this revamped system.
