The New York Jets are making moves to fill the void left by veteran kicker Nick Folk, who recently signed a two-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. Enter Cade York, who joins the Jets on a one-year contract with a chance to prove himself as the team's next kicker.
York, a former fourth-round pick, isn't walking into a guaranteed starting role. Instead, he'll likely face competition throughout the offseason and training camp as the Jets look to solidify their kicking game.
At 25, York's journey in the NFL has been a rollercoaster. He kicked off his career with the Cleveland Browns, appearing in all 17 games during his rookie season.
However, his time with the Browns was short-lived, and he found himself out of the league the following year. York resurfaced in 2024, playing one game for the Washington Commanders and six for the Cincinnati Bengals, but he was absent from the field during the 2025-26 season.
In his 23 career games, York has achieved a 73.3% field goal percentage and has been reliable on extra points, hitting 94.4% of his attempts. Currently, he's the sole kicker on the Jets' roster, but the team might bring in additional competition through signings or the draft.
The pressure will be on for whoever steps into the kicker role for the Jets, as they'll be following in the footsteps of Nick Folk. Despite being 41, Folk has been a standout performer, leading the league in field goal percentage for three straight years.
Now with the Falcons, he's looking to continue his impressive form in his 19th season. The Jets' new kicker will need to rise to the occasion to match Folk's legacy.
