The team spent quality time with Simpson in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, engaging in a dinner and a private workout with key decision-makers, including GM Darren Mougey and coach Aaron Glenn, along with offensive coordinator Frank Reich and quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave.
The Jets’ interest in Simpson is genuine. While some might speculate about the possibility of a smokescreen, Cimini assures that there is a legitimate level of interest in Simpson. With two first-round picks at No. 2 and No. 16, the Jets are in a prime position to make a significant decision if Simpson is still available when they’re on the clock.
Should they decide not to use one of their top picks on Simpson, the Jets have the flexibility to maneuver. They could trade back into the late first round or hold out hope that Simpson falls to them in the second round.
