The Jets are done with the first cut, but the roster churn is just getting started.
After trimming down to 53 players on Sunday, New York now turns to the next phase of roster building over the next 24-48 hours. That’s when teams can start reshaping the bottom of the depth chart through waiver claims and practice squad additions, and the Jets look positioned to be busy.
The waiver deadline is 1 pm ET on Monday, and New York sits at No. 2 in the waiver order. That gives the Jets a strong shot at landing players who become available after other teams make their own cuts.
This is not unfamiliar territory for the Jets. Last year, they added three players off waivers after roster cuts: TE Jelani Woods, LB Cam Jones, and OT Esa Pole. They also saw CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse get claimed by the Giants.
Once the waiver process plays out, the Jets will also build out a 17-man practice squad. That group can include up to six veterans with four or more accrued seasons, plus 10 other players. The 17th spot can be used for an International Pathway Program player like OLB Paschal Ekeji.

The Jets are still fine-tuning the margins of their roster before the 2026 season, and their latest move brought back a familiar face. New York signed offensive lineman Kohl Levao to the practice squad while moving on from wide receiver Cam Camper, a switch that reflects how teams keep shuffling depth even after the final cutdown period. Joseph Ossais first preseason with the Jets ended with an unwelcome setback, and it comes at a spot where New York was counting on him right away. The edge rusher suffered a full plantar fascia tear in the preseason finale and is now being handled as week-to-week, leaving the team to sort out how to cover one of its projected starting roles as the regular season approaches.
Aaron Glenn said Ossai could wind up on short-term injured reserve, which would keep him out for at least the first four games.
