New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is not hunting for Aaron Glenn’s replacement, despite the noise that has followed the team this offseason.
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reported that any talk about Johnson already looking to move on from Glenn is “baseless.” Rosenblatt also said that “by all accounts, Johnson is on board with the plan that Glenn and [general manager Darren] Mougey have presented to him.”
That plan is centered on “build something sustainable,” and on not “skip any steps” along the way.
Rosenblatt added that Johnson and Glenn have a “very close relationship,” a detail that points to Glenn having a real shot to keep the job beyond 2026 if the Jets show progress.
The next step comes in Year 2 of the Glenn era, with New York set to face the Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings. Whether the Jets can get beyond the three-win mark will be one of the big questions hanging over the season.
New York’s 2026 draft class included David Bailey, Kenyon Sadiq, Omar Cooper Jr., D'Angelo Ponds, Darrell Jackson Jr., Cade Klubnik, Anez Cooper and VJ Payne.
Before the draft, the Jets also added Geno Smith from the Raiders, Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Dolphins and T'Vondre Sweat from the Titans. They signed Demario Davis and Tim Patrick in free agency as well.
The Jets open the 2026 season against Tennessee.
“Listen, I just know this, I want to build this to where it’s sustainable, and where we will always put ourselves in a chance to win every year, and that takes time," Glenn said.
Some Jets fans wanted Johnson to make a change this offseason, but that did not happen. Glenn will also call defensive plays this season, and new safety Dane Belton is already bought in.
“Coming into it, I knew what kind of coach he was. Very passionate, very gritty,” Belton told The Athletic.
"Talking to guys that I knew who played under him as a coach and just understanding how he is and the things he expects, coming in, that’s only been magnified. That’s what I got from other players, and that’s what I’m seeing now.
I love it. That’s the type of coach I want - someone who’s passionate about it.
He’s in the defensive room, obviously, and personifying what he wants to see in this defense and how he wants to go about it.”
