Lamar Jackson’s résumé already reads like a future Hall of Famer’s, but the one thing still missing is the biggest thing of all: a Super Bowl ring. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback has collected two AP NFL MVP awards and owns the league record for most rushing yards by a quarterback with 6,522 and counting. Even with all that, his long-term future in Baltimore could come back into focus if the Ravens fall short again this season.
That’s where the New York Jets enter the picture.
FanDuel lists Baltimore with the fourth-best Super Bowl odds, but NFL insider Jason La Canfora is seeing a much bigger possibility develop in New York. He reported that the Jets could be in line to pursue former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin next offseason, and that kind of hire could set off a chain reaction.
La Canfora said, “A potential Tomlin hire could immediately trigger secondary moves across the league, with conversations pointing toward a pursuit of two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson enters a high-stakes stretch with his long-term future in Baltimore unresolved amidst ongoing contract negotiations.”
Jackson’s current deal includes an $84.5 million cap hit for 2027, along with standard no-trade and no-tag clauses. That makes any deal complicated, but not impossible. The Jets, at least on paper, have the kind of draft ammo that could make Baltimore listen.
New York holds three 2027 first-round picks. One came from Dallas in the Quinnen Williams trade.
Another came from Indianapolis in the Sauce Gardner deal. Under the proposed framework, the Jets would send all three to the Ravens for Jackson.
It’s not quite the four first-round picks ESPN’s Bill Barnwell recently pegged Jackson at, but it gets close enough to be interesting. For Baltimore, that kind of haul would mean a serious stockpile of draft capital, whether the Ravens use it to hunt for their next quarterback or spread it around to reload the roster with young talent. The 2027 class already has a long list of names drawing attention, including Arch Manning, Dante Moore, Darian Mensah, Julian Sayin, LaNorris Sellers, Drew Mestemaker, and CJ Carr.
For the Jets, the motivation is a lot simpler. This is an organization that has cycled through Mark Sanchez, Michael Vick, Sam Darnold, Joe Flacco, Zach Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, and Justin Fields since its back-to-back AFC Championship trips in 2009 and 2010.
Now they’re back to Geno Smith. Trading for Jackson would be a swing for the kind of franchise quarterback New York has been chasing for years.
And for a team still looking for its first Super Bowl title since Joe Namath delivered in 1969, that kind of temptation could be hard to ignore.
