The Jets are moving on from Nate Lynn, even after a preseason that made him hard to ignore.
Per a source, New York is releasing the edge rusher on August 30, 2026. That comes after Lynn signed with the team just three days before the Jets’ Week 2 preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and immediately made the most of the chance in front of him.
In two preseason games with New York, Lynn piled up a team-high six pressures and three sacks. His work also showed up in the grading: he posted an 86.5 overall mark at Pro Football Focus, which ranked seventh among 173 EDGEs with at least 30 snaps.
This wasn’t a one-off stretch, either. Across three career preseasons, including his 2024 and 25 seasons with the Detroit Lions, Lynn has produced 21 pressures on 114 pass-rush snaps. That works out to an 18.4% pressure rate.
Because he does not have four years of NFL experience, Lynn is subject to waivers and could be claimed by another team. Pass rushers always draw attention, and Lynn has now shown for three straight summers that he can get after the quarterback.
There is still a path back to New York. The source told Jet X that there is mutual interest in Lynn returning to the Jets’ practice squad if he clears waivers.
For a player trying to force his way onto a roster, Lynn checked every box he could have checked. If he had been around all summer, maybe the story would have ended differently.
