Jets GM Just Dropped Hint About Ty Simpson

Jets GM Darren Mougey shares insights from his college visits, spotlighting Alabama's Ty Simpson as a promising candidate for their upcoming draft strategy.

The New York Jets are deep into their scouting journey, eyeing some of the top talents in college football. As the draft approaches, the Jets are focusing not only on players' on-field prowess but also on their off-field character and potential fit with the team.

General Manager Darren Mougey recently highlighted his visits to several powerhouse programs, including the University of Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas Tech, and Alabama. These stops are a clear indication that the Jets are aiming high, seeking the cream of the crop.

“It was great to get out last week. I think we started in Miami, we were at Notre Dame, we were at Ohio State, Texas Tech, and then finished at Bama,” Mougey shared. This whirlwind tour allowed him to gain valuable insights into a wide range of prospects, from offensive and defensive standouts to potential quarterbacks.

Mougey emphasized the importance of gathering a comprehensive set of data on these draft prospects. “We want the biggest sample size we can, it's always projections with all these draft players," he noted. By expanding their evaluations, the Jets hope to make more informed decisions come draft day.

The trip wasn't just about watching tape and taking notes. It was also a chance for the Jets' leadership to engage directly with these young athletes. Mougey explained that key figures within the organization had the opportunity to interact with potential draftees, building relationships and assessing their fit within the team culture.

“And a chance to get around the coaches. Spent the whole week with AG, Frank, Musgrave went with us.

So an opportunity for me to get to know them, have a lot of conversations throughout the week. So I thought it was a really productive week, felt good about it,” Mougey added, highlighting the collaborative nature of the scouting process.

One player who seems to have caught the Jets' attention is Ty Simpson. Mougey reflected on their visit with him, noting, “It was good, it was a good visit with Ty.

Really enjoyed the time down there. We went to dinner and had a workout and went with him.

It was good.” This interaction could be pivotal, especially with the Jets holding the No. 16 pick and considering their options.

As the draft draws nearer, the Jets are clearly doing their homework, blending on-field analysis with personal interactions to build a comprehensive picture of the prospects they might soon welcome to New York.
