The New York Jets are about to get a boost on offense, but the story around Adonai Mitchell still comes with a fog machine attached.
Mitchell is expected to return Sunday against the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium after missing the Jets’ last four games with a finger injury that never really got a clean explanation. The third-year receiver’s absence stretched back to the span between New York’s Week 2 game against the Green Bay Packers and its Week 3 matchup with the Detroit Lions, when he reportedly got his finger caught in a jersey during practice and needed nearly a month to recover.
Even now, the details remain oddly thin. When Mitchell met with reporters yesterday, he didn’t offer much on how the injury happened or what the treatment process looked like. He was noticeably guarded, and the sense around him was that he had been told to keep it brief.
Adonai Mitchell just spoke to reporters. He was clearly told not to say anything about his injury.
He said he can’t remember how the injury happened or if he had an option for surgery. I’m a little worried he has amnesia.

The 24-year-old made clear he’s eager to get back on the field, though. Asked repeatedly about his finger in the locker room, Mitchell kept steering the conversation back to football and his excitement to rejoin the group.
"I feel great, man. I got 10 of them thangs (fingers), and dog, I'm just ready to ball with the guys, man."
Mitchell’s return should help a Jets offense that has been searching for more rhythm in his absence. New York had to lean on Sterling Shepard and some undrafted free agents while both Mitchell and Omar Cooper Jr. were out of the lineup.
Cooper returned last week in New England and gave the offense a lift. Now the Jets should finally have both receivers back together, which is exactly the kind of jolt this group has been waiting for.

Jets Still Have A Breece Hall Problem They Can't Solve
Breece Halls long wait back onto the field is likely to stretch at least another week, leaving the Jets to keep navigating without one of their most important offensive playmakers. Hall has missed the last three games with a quad strain, and he still has not been a full participant in practice, which has made his status for Week 7 difficult to read even as the team continues to monitor his progress closely.
For a Jets offense that has already had to adjust on the fly, the bigger concern is how long it may take before Hall is truly ready to go. The current signs point to a return in Week 8 as the more realistic target, giving New York another round of uncertainty in the backfield while it waits for clearer momentum from a player it badly needs back in the mix. Garrett Wilson Sideline Tension Revives A Bigger Jets Problem
After the Jets loss to the Dolphins, a sideline exchange between Garrett Wilson and Geno Smith drew attention because it reflected a familiar problem for a passing game that still struggles to find its rhythm. Wilsons frustration appeared to stem from how little he was involved, and the moment landed as part of a larger concern for a team trying to build consistency on offense.
Aaron Glenn addressed the issue after the game, acknowledging the team did not do enough to get Wilson involved. Later reports suggested Wilson and Smith talked it through in a calm way, with the receiver framing the irritation as part of the groups overall performance rather than a personal rift. Even so, the clip was a reminder that the Jets biggest questions on offense are still hovering just beneath the surface. [Read more 🡒]
Jets Face One Huge Week 7 Question In Must Win Vs Dolphins
The Jets head into Week 7 with a familiar kind of urgency, but this one carries extra weight against the Dolphins. Aaron Glenn is still searching for his first divisional win as head coach, and after a week of injuries on both sides, the margin for error feels especially thin in a matchup New York badly needs to keep from slipping away.
Adonai Mitchell offers a welcome boost after missing more than a month, giving the Jets another option in the passing game at a time when availability is becoming a major storyline. Even so, the bigger question hanging over the day is whether New York can sort through its injury list well enough to put its best version on the field, because the status of one key offensive piece could shape how aggressive the offense can be from the start.
