Jets Fans Have A Bigger Aaron Glenn Fear Right Now

Despite fans' frustrations, Aaron Glenn's secure position as Jets head coach may hinge more on personal ties than the team's struggling performance.

The New York Jets are not expected to move on from Aaron Glenn, even with the losses piling up and frustration growing around the team.

That reality comes back to one thing: Glenn’s relationship with owner Woody Johnson. The two have known each other since 2000, when Johnson bought the Jets and Glenn was still a star cornerback. Glenn has made it clear that the connection runs deep.

"[We have] very positive conversations," Glenn said. "We speak after the games all the time and he gives me his thoughts.

I give him the rundown on how things go. I mean, that's the beauty of our relationship is being able to have open dialogue with each other, throwing everything on the table.

There's also a trust factor there."

He added: "I'm fortunate to be able to have the relationship I do have with the owner of this football team," Glenn said. "He's one of the reasons why everybody -- players, everybody -- wants to do everything to bust their ass in practice to try to accumulate these wins because of how he operates with us."

On the field, though, the results have been rough. New York is 4-17 in the Glenn era and has managed only one interception despite Glenn being a "defensive-minded" coach. The Jets finally got their first interception in the Glenn era last week against the Chicago Bears, after failing to record one last season and becoming the first team in NFL history to do so.

The team has also stumbled after opening the year with a Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans. Since then, the Jets have lost to the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions and Bears.

Last week against Chicago was especially ugly. The Bears had 34 first downs, more than the Jets ran offensive plays.

Chicago piled up 492 yards, held the ball for 42:45 and ran 89 plays. New York finished with 157 yards, 17:15 of possession and just 32 plays.

That 32-play gap is the largest in a game since the Browns’ first game back in the NFL in 1999.

Those numbers have pushed plenty of fans to call for a change, and some around the league think Glenn could be fired if the Jets lose to the Cleveland Browns this week. But that is not the expectation.

Even with the record sitting at 4-17, Glenn’s job appears tied to the trust he has built with Johnson. That mark is the second-worst start in franchise history through 21 games, behind Rich Kotite, who began 3-18 and finished 4-28.

Jets Rough Start Just Put A Wild QB Dream Back In Play

The Jets uneven start has already pushed the conversation toward 2027, and now theres another eyebrow-raising angle attached to their long-term outlook. Eli Manning said he would not mind if his nephew, Arch Manning, ended up with New York, a comment that lands with a little extra weight given how far ahead the Jets are already looking and how much draft capital they could have when that class arrives.

Arch Manning is currently leading Texas and is viewed as one of the premier prospects for the 2027 NFL draft, which is enough to make almost any struggling team dream a little bigger. For the Jets, the idea is impossible to ignore because they own multiple first-round picks in that draft and their current-season problems could shape where those selections land, keeping an already wild quarterback thought experiment very much alive. Jets Suddenly Have A New Defensive Concern Against Cleveland

The Jets are heading into their matchup with Cleveland with a new defensive question hanging over the secondary, and it centers on Jarvis Brownlee Jr. Brownlee is working through concussion protocol, and if he cannot suit up, New York would be forced to adjust on the fly in the slot against a Browns offense that will surely notice the opening.

D'Angelo Ponds is the likely next man up, and the rookie has been trending toward a bigger role anyway after seeing more snaps in recent games. If he gets the start at nickel back, it would be another step in his early development, but it would also put added pressure on a young defender in a game where the Jets cant afford much slippage. Jets Projected For Aggressive QB Swing If Season Keeps Sliding

A 1-3 start has already put the Jets in an uncomfortable early-season spot, and the next stretch will go a long way toward determining how far this season can drift. Even with an upcoming meeting against the Browns still ahead, the conversation around the franchise is already widening beyond the current roster and toward what comes next if the slide continues.

One recent mock draft from Yahoo Sports' Nate Tice takes that line of thinking all the way to the top of the board, projecting a bold move up for a quarterback who would instantly change the teams long-term outlook. The scenario has the Jets positioned to climb into the most coveted spot in the draft without emptying every future premium pick, a kind of swing that would only enter the picture if the losses keep piling up.
