Jets Eye Jacoby Brissett After Cardinals Shake Up QB Room

As the Cardinals' quarterback decisions unfold, the Jets eye Jacoby Brissett as a potential game-changer for their uncertain QB lineup.

The New York Jets have certainly made waves during the legal tampering period, shelling out over $100 million to secure talents like Minkah Fitzpatrick, Demario Davis, and Joseph Ossai. Yet, the quarterback situation remains a puzzle. Names like Jacoby Brissett are still in the conversation as potential targets.

The Jets have been connected to quarterbacks such as Geno Smith and Carson Wentz recently, but the ongoing intrigue surrounds the Arizona Cardinals' current starter as a trade possibility. With former Jets OC Mike LaFleur now in Arizona, there could be favorable developments for New York.

The Cardinals have inked a one-year deal with Gardner Minshew, a seasoned NFL journeyman, for up to $8 million. This contract suggests Minshew is slotted as a backup, and rumors are swirling about LaFleur's interest in Los Angeles Rams backup Jimmy Garoppolo.

If the Cardinals decide to sign Garoppolo, keeping Minshew as a backup, Brissett might become available through a trade. The Jets are poised to act if their top choices are snapped up by other teams.

Some Arizona insiders believe Brissett is set as the starter for 2026, but he could be traded if the price is right. Brissett recently threw for 23 touchdowns against eight interceptions, although he only managed one win in 12 starts. This performance was hampered by an unstable coaching staff and a string of injuries.

Brissett's previous experience with new Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich during their time with the Indianapolis Colts is a significant factor. Reich values familiarity with his system, and Brissett fits the bill.

The Jets might acquire Brissett for as little as a Day 3 draft pick. With extra picks in their arsenal and many roster gaps filled through free agency, GM Darren Mougey could be inclined to make a move to stay ahead of the competition.

While Brissett may not transform the Jets into playoff contenders, he would certainly elevate their quarterback play from previous seasons, offering a substantial upgrade.
