Jets Eye Bold Move for Crucial No. 16 Draft Pick

Jets' draft plans for the No. 16 pick are leaning towards strengthening their wide receiver corps, sparking strategic discussions and potential trade scenarios.

The New York Jets are sitting pretty with two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. While the No. 2 pick is likely earmarked for a top-tier pass rusher like Ohio State's Arvell Reese or Texas Tech's David Bailey, the No. 16 pick is where things get interesting.

The Jets' receiving corps, headlined by Garrett Wilson and the budding Adonai Mitchell, could use a boost. With a group of receivers that largely leans on special teams value, there's a strong case for Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn to tap into the deep wideout class this year.

Connor Rogers, on his Badlands podcast, suggested that the Jets have their eyes set on a wide receiver at No. 16. Having skipped on signing a wideout in early free agency, the Jets are in a prime position to snag one of the top pass-catchers available.

If any of the "Big Three" receivers-Ohio State's Carnell Tate, Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson, or USC's Makai Lemon-are available at No. 16, expect the Jets to act quickly. Each of these talents has their own set of challenges.

Lemon, for instance, faces skepticism due to his size and some less-than-stellar Combine interviews. Tate's speed and ability to separate at the pro level are under scrutiny, while Tyson's injury history makes him a gamble.

Should the Big Three be off the board, the Jets have some decisions to make. The next tier of receivers, like Indiana's Omar Cooper Jr., Washington's Denzel Boston, and Texas A&M's KC Concepcion, are promising but might be a stretch at No. 16.

In this scenario, the Jets might consider trading down to the early 20s. This move could allow them to still grab a quality receiver, gain extra assets, and address other needs in their secondary or offensive line.
