The New York Jets are staring at a stretch that could define the rest of their season, and maybe Aaron Glenn’s future with the team.
At 1-3, the Jets have already left little room for error, even if the play has been better than the record suggests. Glenn was hired to deliver an above-average defense and a team that could win at a high level, and that simply hasn’t happened. The results have been ugly enough that questions about his job status are already out there, even if moving on right now still feels premature.
What gives Glenn a shot to steady things is the schedule. New York is moving into a run of games that looks far more manageable than the opening stretch, with the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots all coming up.
As Rich Cimini wrote, “They have lost 17 of 21 games under Glenn, who is trying to eradicate the losing mentality that has enveloped the franchise for years. The fanbase has turned on Glenn, once a popular player for the Jets, and he needs to come up with answers -- quickly.
“After going 0-3 against the NFC North, the Jets have reached the so-called "soft" part of their schedule -- but it's not nearly as soft as it appeared to be in August. They host the Cleveland Browns (3-1) on Sunday, followed by a road game against the New England Patriots (2-2), followed by home dates with the Miami Dolphins (0-4) and Las Vegas Raiders (3-1).
The Raiders and Browns, both led by first-year coaches, are among the year's biggest surprises. Still, these are games the Jets can't afford to squander,” Rich Cimini wrote.
That’s the heart of it: this isn’t a gauntlet, but it isn’t a layup either. The Browns and Raiders have been strong enough to make people pay attention, yet the Jets are favored against Cleveland and should see a real chance to grab one there.
The Dolphins game stands out as the clearest must-win, especially with Miami sitting at 0-4 and looking like the worst team in the league right now.
And then there’s New England. The Patriots have been a problem for the Jets for more than a decade, so that one carries its own weight no matter what the standings say. This next stretch won’t solve everything, but it will tell a lot about whether the Jets can pull themselves out of this mess or sink deeper into it.

Jets Face Another Injury Test As One Late Decision Looms
Another week, another test of depth for a Jets roster that has spent much of the early season juggling injuries. New York and Cleveland released their inactive lists for Sundays Week 5 matchup, and the Jets will be without Breece Hall, Adonai Mitchell, Dylan Parham, Kiko Mauigoa, Nahshon Wright and Nate Lynn, a collection of absences that trims options on offense, along the line and on defense as the team tries to stay afloat.
The bigger late twist centers on Will McDonald, who was limited on Friday and remains a game-time decision. With several players already unavailable and a few other statuses still being monitored closer to kickoff, the Jets are once again waiting until the last possible moment to see how much of their pass-rush plan will be intact against a Browns team dealing with its own injury issues. Former Jet Quincy Williams Just Made Week 5 Personal
Quincy Williams is already turning a routine Week 5 meeting into something with a little more edge. After leaving the Jets in free agency, the former linebacker settled in with the Browns on a new deal and has looked sharper in his new home, even if coverage remains the area that still gets exposed at times. From New Yorks side, this is one of those familiar reminders that a player who once helped anchor the middle of the defense can quickly become a problem on the other sideline.
Williams has made it clear the matchup carries extra meaning for him, too. The Jets did not bring him back, and he has embraced the chance to make them pay for it when the teams line up in Week 5. It adds a little more heat to a game that already has enough of it, and it puts one more former Jet in the spotlight with something to prove. [Read more 🡒]
Jets Win Still Left Fans Debating Geno Smith And Garrett Wilson
The Jets finally got back in the win column in Week 5, snapping a three-game losing streak and offering a reminder of how much talent still sits on the roster. Garrett Wilson was the most reliable piece on offense, finishing with seven catches for 104 yards and a touchdown, while the defense had enough impact plays to carry the day despite a rough overall showing.
Even with the victory, the conversation afterward kept circling back to Geno Smith and Wilson, a familiar split between optimism and unease. The Jets piled up 10 penalties for 102 yards, which made the margin feel a lot thinner than a win should, and Smiths uneven afternoon left the team searching for a cleaner answer at quarterback even after a productive day from its top receiver.
