Jets Cut Offensive Coordinator After One Season Amid Major Shakeup

Following a disappointing season marked by offensive struggles, the Jets are making major staff changes-including parting ways with their coordinator after just one year.

The New York Jets are hitting the reset button - again.

After a brutal 3-14 campaign in 2025, the team has officially parted ways with offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, just one year into his tenure. It's the latest move in what's quickly becoming a full-scale overhaul of head coach Aaron Glenn’s staff following a debut season that went off the rails early and never recovered.

According to multiple reports, Glenn and Engstrand held several conversations about the OC’s future with the team. Ultimately, both sides agreed it was best to move on. With Engstrand out less than a month after the season wrapped, the Jets are now actively searching for a new offensive coordinator - and the buzz is that they’ve had their eyes on veteran play-callers for some time.

Truth be told, it was hard to see Engstrand sticking around in any meaningful capacity. If he had stayed, a demotion seemed likely. The offense simply didn’t show enough progress - or consistency - to justify a second look.

And Engstrand isn’t the only one packing up. He’s just the latest in a growing list of assistants let go after a dismal year under Glenn.

The Jets have also moved on from defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, quarterbacks coach Charles London, defensive line coach Eric Washington, passing game coordinator Scott Turner, linebackers coach Aaron Curry, and defensive backs coach Dre Bly. That’s a major shake-up, signaling that Glenn is serious about reshaping the culture and direction of his staff.

To be fair, the offense gave fans little to cheer about in 2025. The Jets averaged just 263.6 total yards and 17.6 points per game - both marks ranked 29th in the league.

Only the Titans, Browns, and Raiders were worse. It wasn’t just bad; it was broken.

A big part of the issue was instability at quarterback. Justin Fields opened the season as the starter but struggled to generate much in the passing game. Once he went down with an injury, the position became a revolving door, and the offense never found any rhythm.

That kind of performance tends to lead to changes - and in New York, the changes are coming fast.

Now, the focus shifts to what’s next. Glenn has a massive task ahead: rebuilding a coaching staff that can not only develop talent but also establish a clear identity on both sides of the ball.

The search for a new offensive coordinator will be telling. Do they go with a seasoned veteran to stabilize things?

Or do they take a swing on a rising offensive mind who can bring a fresh perspective?

Either way, the Jets are clearly trying to turn the page. After a season that fell far short of expectations, there’s nowhere to go but up.

But for that to happen, Glenn and the front office have to get these hires right. The next few weeks could set the tone for the franchise’s next chapter - one that desperately needs to look different than the last.
