Jets Cult Hero Announces Sudden Retirement

Former Jets quarterback Chris Streveler steps away from professional football after a diverse career spanning the NFL and CFL.

In a surprising twist this offseason, former New York Jets linebacker Bryce Huff has announced his retirement at just 27 years old. Huff, who also had stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and most recently the San Francisco 49ers in 2025, leaves the game earlier than many expected.

But Huff isn't the only former Jet stepping away from the gridiron. Chris Streveler, a name familiar to Jets fans for his brief but memorable stint, has also decided to retire from professional football.

Streveler, now 31, made headlines with his unique journey through the NFL and CFL. He first caught the eye during his time with the Arizona Cardinals in 2020 and 2021 before joining the Jets in 2022.

In his lone start for New York, Streveler showed flashes of potential, completing 10 of 15 passes for a solid 66.7% completion rate and 90 yards. While he didn’t find the end zone through the air, he was effective on the ground, rushing nine times for 54 yards and securing a first down.

After his brief NFL tenure, which included a memorable game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Streveler returned to his CFL roots. He had previously played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2018 and 2019, and he rejoined them for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. During this period, he played in 31 games, throwing for 1,446 yards and seven touchdowns despite 12 interceptions.

Streveler’s path through football is a testament to his resilience and adaptability. From his college days at Minnesota and South Dakota to his varied professional career, he’s shown a knack for making the most of every opportunity. As he hangs up his cleats, Streveler leaves behind a legacy of versatility and determination, stepping away after a decade of professional play.
