The New York Jets are already being tied to quarterback names before Week 1 even settles in, and one of the most intriguing on the list is Miami’s Darian Mensah.
Mensah made an immediate splash for the Hurricanes, throwing for 253 yards and three touchdowns in his first half with the team. With Miami projected to be one of the best teams in the country, that kind of start only adds more attention to his draft stock. The league’s read on him is still unsettled, but there are people who see him as a real option for NFL teams.
Kirk Herbstreit recently floated the Jets as a possible landing spot when discussing quarterbacks who could factor into the conversation.
“I think Darren Mensah could be a quarterback at Miami that could have a great year,” Herbstreit told Heavy Sports of possible Jets QBs. “You know Sam Leavitt because of his skill set and with the way the NFL continues to put a premium on guys that don’t just throw well from the pocket, but the ability to create, which I think he has that ability to do.
Julian Sayin at Ohio State is a highly touted guy. Dante Moore out of Oregon.”
Among that group, Mensah and Dante Moore stood out as the top names in the view being presented.
Moore had been mentioned by some as a possible Jets pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but he returned to Oregon instead. Mensah transferred in from Duke, while Julian Sayin is at Ohio State and Sam Leavitt is currently at LSU.
